Hi all

Need to get a new window AC for my place in Delhi. :hap2:

It looks like all window AC's of 1 Tonne capacity have EER of 9.1~9.5 so electricity bills are not gonna be effected much. :)

So, next come

1. Warranty period,

2. After sales service

3. Maintainence cost over the years

Which brand would you suggest which has a good combination of all 3 points mentioned above. :cool2:

I am currently looking at Voltas Vertis Plus, Godrej, Whirlpool, Electrolux

From what I have read around here, brands to avoid are : LG, Samsung, Onida and Bluestar.

There are AC's from Hitatchi Quadricool series which have EER of 10.6 but use the same KW (1.3) because of a igher cooling BTU of 1380 as compared to 12000 of say, Voltas. But cost some 5-6k more then the competition.

Budget is around 15k but can extend if something really good comes along.

Oh and would anyone suggest a 0.8tonne AC for 10*8 ft. room with no direct access to sunlight (floor above it). That would save on electricity bills too as these 0.8 tonne AC's have a high EER of around 10. But are they enough for the Delhi heat

I have tried to read up as much as I could find on TE regarding the topic and please bear with me if I have asked something which has already been answered before. :)

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Cheers

Me have a OG-General 1.5 Tonne and its quite good, Chills fast and no problem at all for a year now. its a bit costlier but worth it.:)

1. Warranty is 2 years i think (may be 3 :) )

2. Service is from my guys so no props with that

3. its been one year and no maintenance as of yet :)

The 1Tonne Og is very good i heard, will be getting one for my room soon :)

^^ But they cost around 20k (5 k more)...with nearly that much cost benefits for the entire lifecycle compared to a 15k model of any other brand. Is it really justifiable to go for it then...

Have an LG 1.5 ton AC for the past 2 years. No issues till date. And not sure about the electricity bills as we use it very sparingly.

dude..ive been using a samsung for the last 7 years and a single prob till date...dunno if ecently quality has changed

A gemneral cauition on tonnage which pl seem to miss...fr a moderate sized room 1.5 T is a wiser choice over a I ton ac ..lower cost even though apparently the 1.5T will seem a power hog...remeber a 1.5T will take a smaller time to cool the room...less wrk will be done by compressor...be caeful though ..where a 1.5t ac is enuff a 2 ton is an overkill....
take into consideration teh total volume to be cooled, heat sources and losses..
from experience i can say 0/8 tons are suited for very small rooms..in ur case of a 10X8 room think a 1 ton is the bare minimum
