My friend wants to buy a digi cam.
Strict budget 10k.

Now the models I have come up are:

Canon A460 and the A550.

Sony DSC-S700 DSC-S650

Questions

1. Which would be the best amongst these two?

2. Any model in Nikon or Panasonic at the said budget?

p.s Please do not suggest sifymall etc or bring from US. Not possible.

Also budget is fixed at 10k
 
Are you willing to buy in grey ?

If you are then go for the Canon 570 IS for 10k. Best cam in that range.

If you want with a bill and warranty, then go for the Panasonic LS70 for 9.5k with a 3 year warranty. It has optical stabilisation, but a smaller 2.0 inch display.

If you want a slim and sleek cam, the Casio Exilim Z60 is for 10k.

Otherwise you can go for the Canon A550 for better image quality but no optical stabilisation.
 
:) ^^BF... how are Panasonic cameras. My friend is no camera expert but is there any noticeable diffs in pic quality between a panasonic and a canon
 
A Canon will be only slightly better, but not really noticeable. But both Canon and Panasonic have bad low light performance due to noise and Image stabilization becomes necessary. Only Panasonic offers IS below 10k (with bill & 3 years warranty). So I say if you can buy in grey the Canon 570 IS, then go for it or else choose either Panasonic or some cheaper Canon without IS (Canon 550)

And Sony are the worse cameras to buy. They offer very little features but have a high price. If you feel like wasting some money, go for Sony !

I dont know from where you come to this conclusion and advice others. Please go through the sites, which review the cameras, there are good cameras made by sony. For example sony's H series cameras. (they are equalents of Canon's S3). I am not defending sony here. I am not an employee of sony :bleh: . I am trying to tell the fact that Sony do make good digital cameras.

Sorry about that. Sony cameras are not bad. It is just that I got fleeced by Sony when I repaired my camera.

Also Sony camera equivalents are always priced higher than the competition and if they fail, they cost a bomb to repair since most parts are propriety and you cant get them from anywhere else. For e.g. at 12k they have the W35 which has just a 2.0 inch LCD and no other great feature. For 13k Canon has the 570 IS which is miles ahead of even the more expensive W90 camera.

Canon is a much better option here. Even Panasonic has image stabilization within 10k. Which Sony cam has image stabilization below even 15k ?
 
:) Peace guys...My friend went ahead and bought himself an olympus...:) I forgot the model number...It is one of those very sleek models...He being a novice is not too bothered with really exceptional pic quality...For the price (12k) it is pretty good...

An Olympus ? Well my friend bought the same one I think (FE-240 or FE-230). It is very sleek indeed. I hope your friend is happy.
