Is the issue also with the new 1 TB WDEARS drives that come with 64 mb cache as i am using one from past one month in the dock, till now have not faced any issues.

Even i wasnt facing any big issue all of a sudden it went dead....

i had bought it in mid- march and u can see hardly except backup done on it..so it wasnt even stressed with OS work

Finally after 3 hours of continuous trying have finally managed to do rma call

The only RMA issue with Seagate is u have to physically go to thier office in cunningham road and give the HDD there

WD arranges the pickup from ur house...So i prefer it

I RMAed 2 HDD in the last 2 months and both were replaced within 2 weeks...door delivery

Sorry ment nz :P

those who are cribbing about seagte rma so far in Bangalore I have had no problems. Rma usually takes 7 to 10 days depending on your drive. They have been really good atleast for me.

My friend is flying to Zurich next week...Incidently, the highest pay package for ourt company is in SZ..some 4 lakhs per month:)

No Dude...carry the hdd in ur hand baggage...it will not create any issues. I usually carry 2 HDD's in my laptop bag. Never faced any issues while going to Aus and NZ both

OT:Wish u could go to SZ ,

Since i dont have time in India will get them in Singapore. Will HDD's in hand luggage create problem with customs :S

^^no man...NZ project got scrapped.. we f**ked with the clients money big time:)..

Now its only Australia...So whenever u are coming to Melbourne...u are most welcome to stay at my place:)

I might be flying to Melbourne in next 2 months if the company has thier way else in 4 months If I have my Way:)

I get a feeling that the EARS series have bad batches everywhere and for all the models i.e 1TB and 1.5TB. I had just sold my 1TB EACS and thought of picking up a 1.5TB EARS - guess I'll give this a pass and wait rather than lose my precious collection of data.

Than i restarted my computer and suddenly the drive wasn't detected...

It used to show in bios but boot up drive access time went up...

Than i tried r&d to comfort myself and blame the cables but ultimately even that detection too failed

Sounds like a corruption of the boot record table, since the BIOS is detecting the drive. Was the drive on FAT32 file-system or NTFS? if you can access the RAW format disc via Partition Manager sw, try this

  1. Access your disc via a Partition manager software like Paragon Partition manager.
  2. reformat the disc into NTFS
  3. run any data recovery software like GetDataBack for FAT/GetDataBack for NTFS etc.

You should be able to recover all data. Just dont write anything on the newly reformatted disc

Naa when it used to detect it used to take alot of access time as my os was on another drive...later while i changed the cable than also failed and later it never worked..

Anyways instead of thinking to much i RMA the disc today..hope to get a replacement soon

well hope the new one works out OK :) in any case, it is extremely rare that a HDD spontaneously corrupts all over except if it was physically violated in some way ;) mostly its the boot record or file allocation table which decides to take a hike somewhere.

but anyway, offtopic, but how's the reliability of WD Black series..anyone? or does it make more (economical) sense to do a RAID 0 config on 2 WD green 1TB drives??

That's better :)

You plan to carry drives dumped with data from here better get an external drive rather than WD green.

They are built a little sturdier than internal ones IIRC. Little more safety.
An external drive is just an internal with an enclosure BUT with the disadvantage that the warranty is only for ONE YEAR.

The key to safety is not internal vs external, its redundancy or having a backup.

GOt a call today

Drive was rma on 5th of this month...

The chap said 1tb of 64mb cache not possible for another 10 days.....

If possible get 1.5tb 32 mb cache disk...

I said ill take that(better than wasting more time waiting..)as now i wants to rma my 120gb portable whose warranty completes next month....

Hope to get higher capacity there or i already want to get 500 giga one

^ They replaced my 1.5TB WD15EADS with a 2TB WDEADS too. :) Seems they are sending higher capacity drives as replacement most of the time. :)

I am currently using 2 x 1 TB Black since 1 year and they are quite reliable.
Once was DOA which I bought from ebay (DVDSTORE DELHI...I think).

I am also using 2 x 1 TB green. They are not as fast as BLACK series.

But AFAIK Segate drives are much faster than WD drives. I have seen the speeds practically. Only because of reliability I choose WD.

Again i gets a call from them

Now the person says ill get 1 tb 64 mb cache one after 1 week

When i said your person offered me 1.5tb...he gave silly reasons like u didnt accepted that.....I said i confirmed that.... another reason how can we offer higher disc that too which isnt available in stocks....

I instead accepted the call(i cant keep delaying as need the space)...As i need the disc any how...Also the person was lying saying they received the hdd on 11th whereas courier site suggest they got it on 8th...

Now have made my mind ill rma my portable which is working perfectly and to get a higher capacity one as i know they dont make 120gb models anymore

Really they have wasted more than 14 days of mine..last time within 12 days i got the disc and this time have to wait another week

Try sending a mail to wddirect.india@wdc.com, you'll get a more priority response IMO. I got a call the next working day after I sent the mail and I was offered a 2TB drive and was shipped the same day. :)

Bad sectors ..i dont think theyll check each drive...Even if they does i havent seen anyone giving the same product back..Atleast ill get a new hdd even though if is of same size rather than old one
