Well, I have done a clean install of XP PRO.

I am just not able to install my Audigy 2 ZS. It installs uptil 95%. Then it says "Updating Windows drivers. Please Wait".

I wait and I get a BSOD. Cant even boot again. I need to manually remove the soundcard from my system and only then it boots up.

What to do guys?? Please help!!

Earlier, before I reinstalled XP, everything was installed.

But now that you mention it, I will reinstall SP2. Am downloading it right niw from MS website. Am downloading the 200+ MB file. the Network install. Not using Automatic Updates.

Will install that in the morning and post back.

I see that dipdude is viewing this page.... let me see if he can help me out this time like he has previous times.

Hope you have updated your xp pro sp2 as blade mentioned.

Ok, first stop/disable avg for sometime, download latest audigy drivers with specific patches.

Uninstall audigy/disable in bios/boot, clean all old drivers/reboot.

Now enable audigy in bios/reboot/install the latest drivers from scratch.

if you still get the error then maybe ie is corrupted, lets see. do you leave internet on while installing audigy drivers, if no,then leave it on and see.

@yes blade, it seems norton had some problems with audigy, so just to be safe.

@Nikhil, sandy's advise also looks fine, which are the drivers you have ?

How do I undate them??

And I reinstalled SP2. Then I used DC Pro to cleasn out the Creative files. I deleted everything on my HDD which had "Creative".

Cleaned out the recycle bin too.

then I inserted the card into the slot. Computer booted. I clicked on my user name. And within a fe secs, I got the same damned BSOD.

didnt even give me time to do anything else.

^What does the BSOD say? You sure it doesn't indicate a problem with some other component?

If the BSOD comes for only a second or so, right click my computer -> properties ->advanced -> startup and recovery -> remove tick from "automatically restart"

I am trying to install the drivers on the Creative audigy 2 ZS CD.

The BSOD says Machine_check_exception. I rebooted my computer 4 times. No problem at all. I fix the soundcard and the very next time I boot up, I get the same damn BSOD.

I will make a proper note of the BSOD next time I see it.

I tried another PCI slot. Still does not work

OK, try these creative drivers

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy, Audigy 2 series and Audigy 4 series Driver 02.08.0004((34.26 MB))

This download contains an improved version of the drivers found on the Sound Blaster Audigy®, Audigy 2 series, and Audigy 4 series installation CDs. It also supports Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition.

Even with that disabled. Same problem.

@dipdude ---- I dont have time to load ANY drivers before the BSOD. So, trying to install the drivers you linked is useless..... but, thanks for the help anyway. Wish anyone could help me now.

I get this error .... "Machine_Check_Exception"
Googled for it...

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329284

no searching for "Machine_Check_Exception, Audigy". Let me see...

did you try booting in safe mode, also this error occurs only with audigy installed right ?

I have checked via google, some people solved their mce problem by installing normal ide drivers, some by disabling nvidia firewall armour, some by taking out their ide drives, some by replacing rams etc, their is no one solution.

Usually mce errors point to hardware problems like psu errors, cpu o/c, rams, device failures etc.

Your audigy might have h/w problem, thats why i want you to install the latest driver by booting into safe mode if you can.

also if you can edit your boot.ini file, then just add /sos swtich, it will display all the drivers being loaded at startup or you can try, on windows startup press F8 and try step by step boot or something, and see when does the error exactly appear.

can you boot into windows without audigy ?

Thanks dip :)

And anyway, if I boot into Safe mode and then try installing the Drivers, it says that Audigy 2 ZS soundcard not found.

so that is out of the question.

and I dont think replacing anything else will solve the problem. the system works 100% fine. Only when I install the soundcard I get the problem. I tried changing PCI slots too..... no use.

And my chipset is a VIA chipset. I installed the latest HyperIon drivers this morning. Still same problem.
