Zipzoomfly is the site I'm going to buy one from. Have a look at these links.

1. The Antec NeoHe 550

2. The Corsair CMPSU-620HX

There's a $30 rebate available on the NeoHE. Making the effective price down to 76$ i.e. approximately 3,000 Rs. The 620HX works out to $127 after a $20 rebate. That works out to 5,000 Rs!

So tell me, what do you guys suggest? The rebate's only on for the next two days so I have to decide quick. Your help would be much appreciated.

Get the trusty HX620 to future-proof your system ;) It sells for ~7k in India and worth it, so it's a no-brainer at 5k.

Actually, paying a bit extra here makes lot of sense. I had also thought about getting PSU from abroad before, but local warranty and support is important aspects. Afterall PSU is the most important part.

All the PSU's you listed looks good on specs, so unless you've lot of peripherals and your rig requires lot of power, I would say 520/550 PSU is good enough. All of then have three 12v rails with 18amp each.

Depends on how you look at it... for example, how many quality PSU's have you seen (or heard of) go bad? I've had 3 over the last 4 years, and no trouble with any of them...

How about the Antec True Power Quattro ? Are they any good?

From a post in Jonnygyru forums....

Speaking of the Trio 650W... can be had for $50 after rebate!

Central Computers (coincidentally centralcomputers.com) opened up a new store in Sunnyvale. Supposedly the $50 rebate can only be had if purchased from their new store, however they have the rebate linked from their web site. Anyways, $99.99 before rebate is still about the cheapest around.

^^Those are way out of budget for me, and beyond my requirements. Basically, my system comprises of:

Athlon64 3700+ (single-core, 939)

Winfast NF4

ATi Radeon X1900XT

2GB DDR PC3200

3 Hard Drives

2 DVD-Writers

However, I'm going to upgrade to an Intel C2D E6750 and some motherboard, and 2GB DDR2 soon. So the PSU needs to be futureproof enough to comfortably handle the upgrade.

The NeoHE is good enough... I've had the 500W power an 8800 ultra, 4 drives and an e6600 @ 3.6 GHz with watercooling without a sweat. If you want to spend more, the corsair is a better psu.

Should be very good, being from Antec.

In my book any PSU coming from the Antec stable is suspect - because my Antec TPII 550w PSU blew up like a bomb right next to my face a few months back !! :O

In the past few months I have had more than my share of problems with Antec hardware.

Will never buy an more Antec products because of my problems with them and more than that because I would have to deal with Matrix 3d :hap5:

Thank God, your good luck and keep your fingers crossed. :)
How about a few dead Neo HEs, a dead Silvy 850, a dead Silvy 750, some Antecs that went kaboom, ... in the last one year.:P
(I don't feel so lucky with psus and even my TP2 550 is AWOL without undergoing any abuse. :P
But i got a lil lucky as it didn't go out with a 'KABOOM'. :ohyeah:
I have dared to buy a couple of used psus w/o local warranty for friends and if any of them die- i don't think i will be able to buy even a nut/bolt for another year atleast :( coz those psus have 'Bikey warranty'. )

Have read something about few bugs- esp some batches have issues with certain batches of Asus mobos.
The Antec vs Asus bug continues.
I never knew that when a psu sends power to components, it labels it as 'coming from Antec/Corsair'.

Tracer- Corsair HX620 for 7K locally and you are set for the next 2 yrs- period. :hap2:
Few NeoHE500s have died in the past one year, especially when used with APC Back UPS or due to power fluctuations during rains.
But 3K is a steal for the NeoHE550 and you may take a gamble depending upon how lucky you think/feel you are. :P

^ Now Rave should seriously be punished for posting that last link! I mean that's GROSSLY OT and is a clear case of spreading upgraditis.

p.s. - its a pretty sweet deal :p

LOL i thought i was the only exception here for the matrix 3d hatred :(. But *ahem* we have eazy sir onboard too now :ohyeah: :cool2:

BTW, the corsair gets my vote :P

Okay, so the job is done. I have booked the Corsair 620HX! It should arrive here by the 6th of October.

@Rave: Thank you so utterly for the totally off-topic suggestion :P After this upgrade, followed by the move to an E6750+mobo+2GB Ram, the X1900XT will have to serve me for a while. Unless AMD feels generous and throws another Radeon down my way.

I was actually considering the Antec NeoHE but apparently the failure rate is quite high. Eazy, Rushabh, Bikey and a few others reflected that opinion.

I just hope nothing goes wrong with the Corsair PSU, or at least that I manage to get to serviced in India if something happens to it.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the help everyone. It was much appreciated :)

Corsair Corsair Corsair yay yay yay :ohyeah:

need i say more ;)

no probs with APC Back-UPS or Asus :D

Damn, PSU is that all you can think of? Get something useful man - something you cant get here .. like ELWIRE :D

Generally PSUs can be fixed. Even if something happens to it, you dont need a PhD in electronics to fix it. You can always find a good technician to fix it.
