I am thinking of buying Voyager GT flash drive,since I need Good Write speeds,but I've read in many forums about the slow write speeds with the MLC based GT's, So if anyone of you owns this please post your write speeds along with your experience with that.

Also Is GT available in 8GB or starts from 16GB only??

I've read those two links before starting this thread,The first one is the old SLC based right!

and regarding the second link,I don't understand the drop in write speeds from FAT32 to NTFS.

I wanted to know real write speeds,not benchmarks because my confusion started with this Transcend V10 8GB flash drive which had similar read write speeds

Hence my confusion,I wanted to go for the GT series but confused after using my friends Transcend V10 @just 750:huh:

even the specs mentioned on transcend site were 6MB/s for this 8GB one,but look at the real world speeds, Infact while copying a 4.5GB HD rip to it the transfer speeds were never below 20MB/s.

So all I want to know from GT users is real world write speeds of their MLC based GT's so that I can make my decision to go for which one

If formatted properly (using a SDFormatter tool) to FAT32, write speeds are between 16-20MBPS (Real World). In NTFS, around 8-11MBPS.

This is for a Corsair Voyager GT 16GB Drive.

Ahh then how come Corsair sells this as 3x faster than regular ones??

No NTFS means no large file transfers,the main reason i'm going for a bigger flash drive is to move large files,

Suggest some alternatives plzz, I think it is a waste of money if I go for GT for such write speeds,when drives half the price as faster
 
Try buffalo ones. I heard they are mighty fast. Never used one personally though.

The main reason you should go for GT, is for the 10 years warranty (which even the normal one gives) and the built of the drive. It's not meant for high speed usage (though the GT is marketed that way).
 
I am using the 8GB, SLC based one. It is kinda slow on NTFS, around 18-20MBps. and upto 28 on Fat32. But it has to be formatted for those kinds of speeds around once a month.
 
@sriharsha: so you have got your write speed numbers from above posts...

how did you see "20 mbps" write speed for the 4.5 gb file you copied? did you measure using a watch from start to finish (inclusing safely ejecting the device) or did you look at what is displayed in the copy dialog only??? they can print any deceptive numbers out there...

edit: for example, copying a 190mb zip from my old WinXP laptop to attached 16GB GT (FAT32) took 45 seconds or about 8 MBps... who knows if it will be much faster on a full desktop with latest OS...
 
yup the one shown in copy dialog box ,didn't measure the exact time though I felt it is faster than My sandisk Cruzer micro 2GB and a few other friend's flash drives.Normally we exchange flash drives and I found this one to be best of all that I used.
Heard of the Buffalo drives,but availability seems to be an issue.

I want a better one since I won't be upgrading it for a long time and hence confused

yup that is what I wanted to know,I use this mainly to transfer movies among friends so how much time would it take to write a 700 rip and 1.5 Rips and say 7.5 GB ISO's and such,So all I need is faster transfers for the above file types and suggest me which one gives me best speeds
 
i too get only 8-9MBps sustained write speeds on my 16GB GT..once i did try and format it as NTFS...the write speed became horribly slow..had to reformat back to FAT32...though i must say they are almost 50-100% faster than the widely available transcend/sandisk ones.
