I have the complete setup with a bandpass filter that I use occasionally with my laptop for ADS-B tracking (as I am near the airport), but want to run it 24x7. The Pi Zero 2W with a full USB adapter seems apt as there is a compiled image available but I suppose any board will do as it is possible to do a one-time compilation on Linux.

All SBC are presently OOS or over-priced, so looking for one with a respectable price compared to the original MRP or otherwise will have to wait it out.

Hey , sorry for OT
I was looking to setup an ADS-B. Saw many enthusiasts on forums abroad but didn't expect to find one right here on TE.
Where did you procure your bandpass filter from?
I was looking to pickup a Raspberry Pi 4 from Olx locally to use with ADS-B (Apart from Pihole duties)
Can you share a breakdown of components required and their cost in India?
I did go through Piaware and other thrreads on reddit but ended being confused.

Hey, good to see someone else interested. I have the official RTL-SDR kit, purchased sometime ago with the RTL2832U chipset and R860T tuner. It comes with a short dipole antenna that is good enough as you need about 6.8cm per arm (quarter wave at 1090 MHz). It also has a long dipole that you can use for FM and approach/tower broadcasts.

There are cheaper options available with the same chipset and tuner, but their shielding may be suspect, so get the official kit if you can as it is well designed.

Also, I purchased the official Flightaware bandpass filter as that is guaranteed to work well for 1090 Mhz ADS-B signals.

I purchased most of the stuff from eBay, but I recently saw all the components available on iBhejo, so probably you can get it from there.

NOO Elec NESDR Mini 2+ 0.5PPM TCXO RTL-SDR & ADS-B USB Receiver Set w/Antenna & Remote Control, RTL2832U & R820T2 Tuner. Low-Cost Software Defined Radio.

Found this on Amazon. Would I require anything else apart from a Pi.
What approx receiver range can I expect with a kit like the above

Raspbery pi 4 8gb +3.5" display+LCD Compatible case+aluminium heatsink, all of them for 9k.

I paid a lot more then that and nothing is used except pi which I bought from another TE Member for 7k.

I sold my Pi 4 a year back simply because I get all the other stuff done with an old Windows tablet. Specifically looking for a lower power basic SBC only to run PiAware 24x7.

I have the kit from RTL-SDR blog which is cheaper and comes with aluminium casing, that helps transmission and in heat dissipation. Don't go for the plastic casing ones as they are generally cheaper and have a worse signal to noise ratio. You don't need anything more than the USB dongle and the antenna for SDR.

I was a bit sceptical as to whether my 8-year old Windows tablet will be able to run a VM in addition to all the servers, scrapers, remote access, bittorrent client and time/weather/news dashboard it is running, but it handles it surprisingly well.

Have set up Ubuntu Server with Piaware in VMware to run at boot with 1 vCore,1 GB RAM and it seems to be running really smoothly. Thus, no longer need a Pi. Will still probably get a new one in the distant future when everything rationalises as I intend to eventually set it up facing the airport.

May I ask what tablet it is and specifications? You can reply in PM to avoid OT here.
Thanks!

I guess this thread has served its purpose for the time being, so will mention it here itself as I will not be bumping it again.

It is the Dell Venue 11 Pro with the first ever Core M processor (5Y10). Had imported a refurbished unit back in 2014 from US and never expected it to last this long. Moreover, installed Windows 11 on it with TPM disabled over the weekend before setting up Piaware and it works as well as Windows 10.
