Am using a non-rooted nexus 5.Recently moved to android from iOS. One feature i miss is the ability to change songs using volume rocker. Is there any app for non-rooted phones which aalows change of songs by hard pressing volume keys when the screen is off ?? i know player pro offers this feature but for it to work the screen has to be off!!

I guess you need to be rooted and install Xposed framework. There you would find many modules which can fulfil your requirements.

I know, you may have some apprehensions about rooting but I think rooting is fairly easy and reversible process. By rooting, you can unleash power which Android offers.

Try GoneMad music player. It had this option to change either volume or to skip forward or backwards to next previous song with the phone locked.

tried it. Can't find that option.[DOUBLEPOST=1391431117][/DOUBLEPOST]Am still hesitant to root my phone.Fear there's a possibility (however small) of issues like malfunctioning gps, etc, etc. developing .Also what happens when a new version of android is launched by google?
I see a lot of player offer features like skipping to next track using earphones.Any idea abt the compatible earphones ??

Edit: I saw it does not work with screen off. It seems its because of Android os.

Got this from the developer's blog.
Also due to the way the android OS is setup, the buttons cannot be overridden with the screen off, nor can it capture the key presses if gmmp is not in focus.

So if this limitation is because of android kitkat i guess no player will work. Now my question is can you instead skip tracks using earphones and if so are there any compatible ones with decent auio quality ??

It does with my Dell BH200 so I assume it should work with any earphone/headphone with builtin remote

Did u check my suggestion o_O
Awesome man!! that's exactly what i have been lookin for!!! You made my day!! Actually i tried this earlier but didn't read the instructions and thought this doesn't work. You have to open this app before you launch the music player for this to work.
