I've got an iPhone 2G 16GB currently on OS 3.0.1. Its unlocked and jailbreaked.I was thinking of upgrading to 3.1.3 if it's worth it.

Is their any way to upgrade it without losing my data such as photos ,contacts ,installed applications etc ? Especially dont want to lose the apps downloaded via Cydia as I dont have wi-fi access and will have to visit friends place to download them again if I need to .

Why not sync it to itunes, take a bacup of the ipa files.

Use Spirit [ Read the guide ] to JB the upgraded firmware.

Then put back all the apps back.

IPA files I already have so can sync them later as well. More worried about the apps downloaded from Cydia.

That is really not a problem, I updated an already jailbroken ipod touch from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3, you just have to flash it with the stock (uncooked) firmware, i.e just update it and jailbreak it again.

I'm not sure if its the same for iPhone's though.

just install rocks on you ipod/iphone and then make a backup with it after doing firmware update u just have to install rocks again and restore your data from rocks and one more think rocks make backup of your date on its server so u will need a wifi router and a internet connection for it
