^^

I still remember how I used to share my school tiffin box with the stray dogs around my school. And my mum used to feel happy that I was eating my full tiffin religiously!!!

It is my experience that If one starts taking care of any dog, he eventually falls in love with the dog species and then automatically takes care of the strays in his/her locality. ;)

Nehal even i share your view.

Even our building have pet a stray dog.And we the whole society consisiting of 96 flats sometimes or other feed it.

Also whenever dominos chap is around our building we come to know as he starts barking.

He repeats the same with anyone from gas supplying chap too and raadiwala.

Touchwood is our dog doesnt bite. But all outsider even rick are scared of him.Once in a rick i said rick to take in society he said sorry sir there is dog name stuffy(we kept his name on stuff toys look of his in childhood) whho always barks on him and he is scared of dogs.

Also his schedule is somewhat that he sleeps in day and keeping roaming in society whole night with watchmen .
And touchwood from the day he came in 1998 till now 2011 there havent been any burglary in our building in past before 1998 there have been events when robber came in our society in some posh cars cut the door and rob the flat and went out with stuffs in cars.
But nothing of that sort now.

Even people who used to dislike pets have started liking him as their small kids play with him and he doesnt harm at all .Also vets give us discount in his treatment as we have taken a stray as pet for society and we cant afford to keep a pet at home but still we think about the stray.

But now as he turned 13 years lot of his health issue have come up like enlarge heart because of which he keeps on coughing from past 3-4 months.

But in sort i too support why doesnt one support a stray than a particular breed whereas stray will get house much needed whereas for another one always get a big and better house.

@Nehal : I have 2 little kittens.. Tell me if you can take care of them :)

^^ I can't keep kittens bro... I have a lot of dogs all around me all the time!! :P For dogs, anything other than a dog cannot survive in their company (that too if it is introduced as a puppy and not as a full grown dog!). Yeah, and adult dogs work with each other if they are introduced away from home for a few times and then kept together. It's the territory issue I guess. Also, if a female dog is not aggressive, she can be introduced to the adult male dogs, they are more than willing to take her in the pack!!!

Still, if I find anyone willing to adopt any kitten, I'll ping you... :)

There is one downfall. Once the dog becomes part of your life, you become attached to him. He becomes a family member and when the time comes for him to rest in peace, it becomes very difficult. I had mourned for a month and my mother was even more sensitive. It becomes very difficult.

Also for people living in apartments, if they have to go out on a long trip outside the city, either they would have to take their dog with them, or they need to to have good neighbours who would take care of the dog, in their absence. It is a big responsibility and as a past owner of 3 dogs and 3 cats. I know this. Fortunately for me we had an independent house with compounds.

Also i have seen some bastards, who get the dogs just because of aesthetic reasons or something . They dont think about the responsibilities associated with it. And when they come to their senses, they just throw the dog out in the streets to fend for its own. It is very hard for the dog to live in the streets once it is used to living in home. I have seen some guys coming in cars and leaving a pretty old dog out in the street and run away, just because it had become old and was of no use to them. I hate such heartless bastards.

So before getting a pet, give it a deep thought about all the responsibilities. It is not easy.

I am not discouraging any one, but just making the facts clearer.

those kinda people should burn in hell for all eternity. :@

how would they like it if their parents had left them like that when they were a child (coz thats the equivalent coping skills that a dog brought up in a home willhave) ?

Surprizingly, in the 4 days I have had the bunny, I haven't see him poop... Or maybe his poop is so tiny that I never noticed it!
Or may be he is eating them (link)
sunzeal: How is he doing? Did you name him?

^^ You brought back my worst memories and sorrows... And reinstated the fear of the future that I had sumhow managed to push to the back of my mind... :(

Now, it'll be some time till I get the fear to the back of my mind again... Please, no more discussions of doggy going away... :(

thanks everyone. BTW here is an update to the BIG Bunny nowadays :-

Well, a person who had like 10-12 rabbits had said that initially when they are small they need lot of heat. So i opened my PC case and inside it was the fav place for the bunny to sleep as they like hot places and most of the time, it gave him sufficient heat ( and yes i have proper earthing ;) )

It was earlier, but now its BIG enough and big enough to eat the wires and harass me all the day ( but i love it :D )

Here are some pics of it ( its high resolution, so i have included the direct links )

Isn't it unsafe to keep the bunny inside your PC or next to your spike guard considering it chews wires?

Earthing won't help in this case; a circuit breaker might. Plus you better hope your PSU's short-circuit protection is working fine.

Dogs are like my best friends. I had one when due to some reasons dad had to give it to someone. :( I remember one incident when my dog was being taken away, I got beaten by dad more than 20 sticks hardly, but I resisted just to save my dog (dad wasn't beating my dog but me as I wasn't allowing him to take him. He also loved him). I really miss him. :'(

Anyways I'm overwhelmed to see such a huge animal love and support on TE, you guys rock :)

well, earlier he did not chew anything, just went on milk for a week.

Well, even i touch my PC components live most of the time, doesn't matter much, well, case is closed now, just had opened it when it was small.

[/That bunny looks cute in that cabby, maybe you gotta teach him pc assembling

well, he can help me in de-assembling by chewing up all the wires :P
