Graphic Cards Anyone got their VRAM repaired? Debating whether to buy a new GPU or repair my 2080.

I got horizontal lines on my display and error 43 on device manager. This mostly means The VRAM on my GPU has died. I am fine with 1080p gaming so repairing the GPU is not an issue for me if it is cheap.

I will mostly buy a used GPU. Should i wait for Nvidia 50series to launch or splurge on a used 3090?

GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Gaming Trio 8GB

Edit: Also are there any places i can sell my GPU for parts.

i wanna know if there are places i can get it repaired. i do have a 1060 lying around and i think the ports are dead. gpu works fine. if it gets repaired ill sell it.

How do you know that the ports are dead and not the GPU ? Just wondering
Afaik, dead ports will not give error code 43 on device manager.

Code 43 can also mean dead/partial dead GPU chip and not necessarily VRAM. But lines points to VRAM.

@ToroVolante if you decided to sell it as parts, I would love to have that cooler as a replacement for mine.

I have reballed VRAMs and have replaced them as well. I personally don't see why they won't last if done properly. But in India, it seems like there is no new spare parts or any spare parts for GPUs in general, and you can't import from aliexpress which is a bummer for any kind of repair.

If GPU repairing is not a thing then who buys these parts?
I don't think people will repair a decade old GPU. They just use those for parts to repair better gpus.

I think that question was posed to the owner of the dead GTX1060.

Would love to sell it to you, @Hachune. But I already have a prospective buyer in line. I will ping you if he decides to back out.

GPU repair is really not worth it. You are better off getting another GPU instead of trying to repair it.
Not true. Maybe for lower end GPU like 1050/1650 or below but for RTX 2080 changing a VRAM chip isn't that hard of a task (for someone who has required equipment and knows soldering). Biggest problem is acquiring a working VRAM chip probably from a donor board or through shipping direct from china.

I know someone from youtube who repairs GPUs, motherboards, PSU etc. and doesn't charge that much but his queue of pending orders is huge. I'm talking about 50+ costumers with some sending multiple cards to him so he's always busy and never manages to finish his repairs in time. This is probably true for most repair shops so unless there's one near your location where you can go and get it fixed on the spot (as they will probably give it priority) you should just buy a separate GPU and get rid of this card.

Also have you confirmed its really a VRAM issue by ruling out other components like RAM or windows itself ? or testing the GPU memory modules through a memory test software?
Some links that might be of use to you: Cuda memtest | GPUmemtest (can only verify upto 4GB VRAM) | gpu memtest (vulkan)

Issues lies with GPU, have an old GPU to as replacement. The PC works fine. Will try the GPU memtest, do they work even though Device manager is in error state for GPU. How much do think I expect if I am selling the GPU for parts?

If your PC is able to show display and boot windows with the dedicated card installed then the memtest should work. No clue about pricing but most repair shops will lowball you. Maybe you can take the GPU to a repair shop and ask them if they will first check if the GPU is okay or not, how much it will cost to repair and how much they are willing to buy it for up front.

You can also list it on OLX as a non-working gpu but there's lots of scammers there so slim chance of selling. I sold my old working GTX 1060 w/ broken shroud that way and the buyer actually trusted me and paid me up front to ship it to his house. Very rare but happens :D

Why thinking of getting a 3090 if your only purpose is to game at 1080p? 3060ti/3070 might be perfect for you specially considering how cheap they have gotten recently in used market.

I like to future-proof stuff. 2080 ran me 6 years. Hoping 3090 can do that as well. I am happy if NextGen games can run 120fps+ 1080p.

Selling the 2080 for 2.5k, hope I didn't get scammed
