Has anyone here ordered BIG TV ??? how is it.. How are the list of channels like...How has ur experience been with the installation and all... planning on getting it for me .. wanted to know.. is it any better than tata sky...
 
yep thats y im posting here.. to know if anyone here ordered it.. and the general experience they had...also this mpeg4 crap is it true? is the picture quality better???

well i have been uusing BIG tv from 4 months and 22 days,the video quality varies when there are less channels like 186 its better but when they increase the channels to 191 the quality degrades with lots of articfacts,they keep adding or taking out channels.the sound qulaitys is good and its comes in stereo.

the stb has a component out and my sony lcd says that its receiving a 576i video. now the menus hangs a lot the stb can get heated up,once this occurs the channels changing might take ages we are talking about 20 secs for the stb to respond.this problems i face it almost every day,and its not a problem just for me since many BIG tv users are complaining the same.

there is a option of 16:9 but it doesnt work.so if u are a lcd or plasma users u have strech the image to fit the entire screens so people look funny since every one is fat but overtime u will get used to this.

my complain is the annoying big tv symbol which blocks the scores particularly in F1 ,also in some news channels.
the channel info and the menu is big which takes the entire bottom of the screen when u are changing the channels it takes 3 sec for it to disappear in that time u could loose crutial caption in news channels or sports scores.

certain times the EPG doesnt show the right information.and i am repeating again the stb hangs quite a lot so the entire menu,channel changing can take ages or even fail to respond untill u hard power off by the AC switch.
 
Nice info... I was thinking of BigTV but might have second thoughts now. Did you try opening the STB to check what is heating up? Probably might be fixed with a fan or something.

well i used to have fans i.e the stb rests on a pentium 3 heatsink and on top of the stb there is a celeron 478 socket heatsink with fan,otherwise the stb hangs within an hour of use and 3 months ago when it was summer within 15 min the stb used to get realy hot.but now i dont turn on the fan but just put the heatsinks does a good job ,i didnt like the noise made by the fans.

i didnt open the stb but the quality of parts inside looks cheap when seen via vents.and i didnt see much heatsinks inside.just the RF part is shielded.

This issue reminds me of the battery problem faced in the Reliance phones when they were launched. In this case i believe it is advisable to wait for atleast 1 - 2years before buying it. when they have better offers (something like reliance to reliance free std calls) and better products. In the meantime build your balance to buy a full HD compatable T.V. You will require it to watch the HD channels on offer.

I guess you got the older version of the STB! These problems are resolved in the newer version.Contact CC to replace it(if yours is an older one.)Check their Website to see the new one.

well i already had replacements of my stb.however the one shown in newspapers ads is called MODEL 2 by big tv,since its mentioned in the manual as of now and per my knowledge no one has yet seen these MODEL 2 STB in action and who know what kind of problems it might have.

the only difference b/w them is that model 2 had a coaxial digital out and a CAM slot ,which is used for people wishing to go from BIG TV to anyother DTH provider.

well i already have a 32inch lcd,though not FULL HD and going by the way prices have fallen i will probably buy my next lcd or flatpanel display only by next olympics .at that time we will have OLED screens.
well i am waiting for reliance IPTV if they launch HD channels i might get that,the BIG tv does have plans to launch HD ch but they will have to get more transponders currently they have only 8.
tata sky has 12 transponders once they shift to mpeg4 they will have the advantage,on the other hand DISH tv will have additional 13 transponders by the year end and are also launching HD channels currently they have 7 transponders.

so people who are thinking of going for BIG tv better wait.
 
I Couldn't find any list of channels in various packages they offer? I searched their website all along but they just mention various packs and offers. I dont need all the channels.

Is the packages cheaper than tata sky or dish?
 
big tv is offering some discounts for south india.may be the competition is too hot(sun dth with mpeg4).

also ,I saw their ad saying big is the first dth in india with mpeg4 technology.utter rubbish. sun dth for the past 12 months is giving mpeg4 transmission. :|

186 or 186000000000000000.... I think only about 25 channels would be worth watching and may be another 10 once in a while.

The problem is these buggers making us buy all the other craps in the name of Packages and offers.

Remember when they first introduced CAS they said you can get only the channels you want.

so true big tv packages like the starter pack for 100,i dont watch a single channel in those,yet they make it mandetary to choose the starter pack.i dont know when TRAI will force the Rs 5/ch rule.
