You mean I should uninstall whatsapp and download from appcake etc? But then how to ensure all the conversations stay intact ?

Messages will stay intact, they will. Or else you can take backup before and try.

I always do this and I never faced any problems. If you are paranoid, then do this. Install Social Duplicator. It lets you make multiple install of any app. Install Whatsapp with this. Now you will have two whatsapp. Use iFile and copy data from old to new. Do whatever experiment you want on new whatsapp.
