I will be running Athlon64 3000+, Seagate 200GB, HDD, 512 MB RAM, 450W Mercury PSU on Win XP Pro SP2.

I would like to know more about this mobo regarding the following points:

1. Conflict with Audigy 2 ZS
2. High CPU temperature
3. Unstable performance (Frequent crashes, lockups etc.)
4. Mid-level gaming performance (I will be adding a Geforce 6600 pci-e, 256 MB)
5. SATA HDD and SATA RAID support

If u know of any other major issues, regarding this mobo, plz let me know. Thx.

1) No conflict

2) No, your temperatures cannot be high due to a motherboard. Its upto the HSF and Proccy.

3) No motherboard, with any processor will give you frequent crashes, lockups, at default settings. If you mess around with the settings, or with the overclock, then that can happen.

4) 6600? Go for a 6600GT 128mb. 6600 256mb is a cheap marketing gimmick.

The 6600 Vanilla doesnt have the power to utilize 256mb.

5) Supports SATA RAID 0 and 1.

No issues that i am aware of. It should be a good buy. But id still suggest that you go for the Asus A8N-e :).

In the same context...

1) No conflict (agree with u goldie)

2) The mobo might report temps high even though processor is relatively cool. BIOS update might fix such issues. Best is to touch the heatsink and see if its really that hot!! Anything more than 65C will be very hot to touch.

3) BIOS upgrade might fix certain issues. Also check for BIOS settings that affect stability. Default settings might not be as good as its supposed to be.

4) 6600? Go for a 6600GT 128mb. 6600 256mb is a cheap marketing gimmick.
The 6600 Vanilla doesnt have the power to utilize 256mb. - Yup. Better get the 6600GT. There are alternatives tho from ATI - availability is an issue.

5) Supports SATA RAID 0 and 1. - Yes goldie, very true.

Do you already have the board?? These are just minor quirks and easily fixable.

Raghu.

Btw, thanks gf for saving me a lot of typing :D

Thx. for the info. I am already over-budget, that is why I am searching for a stable but cheap mobo. I think 6600GT(128MB) costs around 9000/-. That is a bit too high for me. Do u have any idea regarding Gigabyte K8N51GMF-9?

I would say that you think twice before going for a mobo with the SiS 756 chipset . This article will be helpful from Anandtech. Whats your budget for the board?

Get the krypton nf51 board. I got it for 4100. Damn good. Its a Biostar 6100-M9 rebadged. It will take the TForce 6100 BIOS too and once crossflashed it overclocks like a champ!!

Look over the net for reviews and its currently amongst the best budget ocers along with the Asrock (which is not available here).

Raghu.

Try and get a Foxconn nF4 based board. They retail for around 3.5k and are excellent.

Infact our senior member deejay had used the board for a while too. The quality is great as Foxconn are OEM for Intel original boards..:)

I had wanted to go for the Gigabyte K8N51GMF-9 since it had got good reviews plus it is cheap but nobody has it in my city and my dealer says he can order it only in pack of 20. Foxconn seems very tempting at 3.5K but I doubt very much if they r available here. I had search quite a few stores for amd mobos and could come up with only a couple of MSI mobos and Asus A8N-E. I will make inquiries regarding Foxconn mobo tomorrow. It will save me almost 2.8K. I could use the extra bucks to get a 6600GT instead of 6600. If I can't find it, I am getting Asus A8N-E.
