Hello everbody

as the title suggests, i am looking for a portable music and video player which is not ipod or zune (only reason being that i have decided from now on to try as hard as possible to not to buy any software or hardware which isn't open source compatible)

but i would like it to have same (ot at least close) capabilities in terms of storage (looking for 80-120 GB), battery, and price (ok, may be a little higher will be ok with me)....

any geek here who has ever tried to go for such a deal....

any advice.....

both videos and audio....

i think ipod and zune 120 are available around 12-13 K

i am ready to spend 13-14 K or may be little more depending on features....

looks like a GEM to me...but 30 GB for 20 K

its always hard for people like me, always for hungry for max storage space....i think everybody at least needs 60 GB to store stuff (at least till the time we get HD stuff in India)

any idea about price ? not available on compareindia.com or ebay.in

btw, one place where all these non-ipod and non-zune player fail is price per GB:

i mean just look at creative zen series....30 GB for 23-24 K....i mean why don't these guys want to compete with ipod or Zune when they have such brilliant stuff ? why restrict to only small segment to customers ? or is it that they can not do this ?

i could never understand the reason behind it...when Apple and Microsoft can produce a piece of hardware and sell for such price, why can't other companies do same or at least close....i understand that there must be licensing fee (for supporting various codecs) adding up to cost...but this much difference....why not base their hardware on open source stuff.....

if any expert may comment here.....

^ I guess he is asking if you want a player with nice huge screen like zune. Look out for sandisk sansa threads in market.. they are raining at very cheap rates in GO's. Since your budget is quite good check out some higher models on Amazon/Newegg .

Actually, thats ONLY if you are referring to official pricing. grey market should be much cheaper.
