I lost my mobile 2days back. The bugger is still using my number. I am going to file an FIR. How can I render the mobile useless?

Not just the number... I mean the device. How exactly to use the IMEI number?

Get the FIR copy & personally visit service provider & explain them what you want.

First Block the Sim/number & than Block (dead) the Handset.

I don't think it will be SMOOTH. If not take help from Local Police Station.

abe you can still track ur cell let him use your no. just give some applications and copy of FIR from the police to all the telecom. companies working in ur area so that they can track ur cell and rest police will do

now days mobiles can not be stolen for long as all phones except chinese can be traced by its IMI no.

my friend got his phone back in just 3 days.

Which handset have you got?

One of the excellent apps included in the latest S60v3 phones by Nokia is something called WaveSecure, which is actually provided free of cost for Nokia users!!

The app has an online as well as an ondevice interface. Once you have registered, you can track the Sim cards inserted in your phone, when was the phone last switched on. You can add numbers to the blacklist, so if that sim is inserted, the phone will be locked.

Some of the awesome features include -

Sending a lock commond from the web, including the option to display any message while the device is locked. Also, you can have a bugging alarm tone play while the device is locked! You can put up any message, like "The belongs to XYZ and has been lost. Reward will be given to anyone who contacts 1111111 with details" etc.
I tried it, and the phone got locked within a sec of me giving the command online.

Another superb feature is to initiate backup of the Call logs, contacts & messages directly online. So suppose somebody else is using your phone, you can initiate the backup and see whom have they been calling, contacting and trace them better.

There is more left, you can remotely wipe your device too! It is simply superb...

A must try - WaveSecure

yeah get the sim blocked as soon as possible and u must hv some contacts in police department too,for forcing the telecom company to block ur imei number,so that it cannot be used anymore.

Service provider wont entertain you for tracking the device widout FIR...neither will manufacturer for tracking IMEI.

act fast...or block sim n make ur peace with it.

IMO tracking the phone and all is impractical unless your phone is VERY COSTLY or you have some real DEEEP Contacts to make things work your way that too faster......Lock the SIM , get the replacement SIM....and let time heal the loss of your phone ( been there , done that )

before making it useless..first block the number...the person might have threaten someone than it would be u who is caught not him...

Now regarding my place...my frnd N95 was lost from his shop while he went to loo....he knew the imei number...along with the FIR..he paid 1k to the police officer where he gave the FIR plus promised he will give 1k more if the fone is found......This stuff happe ard 4 months bak...and just a week bak with the imei number the police tracked that an auto driver was using the fone.....He himself got the fone in his auto as somone else 4got their....plus he had made some repair...the guy paid both of them

in all with 5k extra spending he got his n95....

I have filed a complaint. The police assured me they will try to locate it using any calls made by that person and also track using IMEI number, but I have no hopes of getting it back. The phone is Nokia 6210 Navigator... I bought it just 2 months back. That thief is merrily making calls. I only have 40Rs on it in any case.

I am going to block the sim tom.

I really wish I could disable the phone, but I hear that blocking phone through IMEI number is not possible in India. If anyone has credible information on blocking Mobile phone using IMEI please help. I feel so annoyed. I dont want the thief to use my phone

Its possible technically. You will need to provide a copy of the FIR to each and every service provider in your area who can then block it :)

@vij .. i understand what you are going through ... lost my mobile twice ...:ashamed: tried my level best to track/recover it first time .... nothing happened ...total wastage of time and resources ... not to mention peace of mind... you also need to pay to police for getting fir done !!

second time .. just blocked my number and issued new sim .. and moved on ... it is really helpless ...or shall i say hopeless ... nways ... i have learn t from my mistakes and take up most care ot my handset now ...:eek:hyeah:

Hope it does not allow software flushing !!:)

..After all its India...

When AK 47 lands over the city like mumbai blocking is a small stuff for mobile....u need to have ctct...or the green paper

Well one of my friends who lost his mobile got an FIR lodged and went to the service provider who took out a list of the latest called numbers....they then called those numbers and threatened them of taking serious action against them (as they can be used for terrorist activities) if they did not give the identity of the person who called them using the number....they eventually did and it turned out to be a chef of a corporate hotel...all the best
