Apache keeps crashing. how to troubleshoot?

I'm running drupal 6 on the latest stable XAMPP on a ye olde XP machine.

There are about 420 users, and the httpd.exe keeps crashing and going down at peak usage time (~100 concurrent users)

what can i do ?

Check in the log files if it gives any hit on why it crashes.

They should be present in folder "xampp\apache\logs"
