Guide
This question might seem very nooby but I would like to know that whether keeping my UPS near my computer will cause problems or I am just being paranoid.

Reason for being paranoid : 2 years back I was away for almost/over a month. I had taken my computer apart and kept it all on my bed during my absence covered with bed cloth. When I came back and assembled the computer my graphic card died and gradually each component died. Frustrated I sold the computer at the end. Now the period I was away was from May to June and my room had become damp. But, the computer repairman said that it was because I had kept the UPS close to my computer which led to a gradual death and not the moisture. I spoke to a few more technicians and they all claimed the same. The problem is I had no problem before going on that trip and had used that UPS for over a year by them.

At the moment I have placed it near the cabinet as seen in the picture below because I am running out of space and the initial placement of UPS away from computer is very inconvenient:

There is a window in the wooden partition to keep the computer ventilated as seen in the picture below:

Initially I had kept the UPS away from my computer and kept a stack of comics to reduce the magnetic field as seen in the picture below:

Please reply.

on the same distance i used ups for 6 years and no problem.

and i think the reason for component dying is electrostatic discharge not ups or moisture.always use plastic bags that comes with components below them when u place on bed sheet or place then on wooden table.use anti static wrist band or touch a metal surface before touching electronic stuff.

^^ When I said I had taken my computer apart I meant in units and not at component level i.e., cabinet, monitor, printer etc.,
