Recently I got a APC Back-UPS ES 650.My OS is XP.
Whenever I try to install the APC PowerChute Personal
Edition Software, the following error message will appear.

The installer is unable to locate a supported APC battery
backup to your computer.
Please check your USB connections and try again.

Please give me a solution to install the software.

Did u connect the UPS to the System?

My knowledge about PC Hardware is big zero.I connect the power cable of the CPU to the UPS(as usuall).Anyother special connection is needed for the software?.(There are three outlets in the back side of the UPS well outlet,modem or Fax & Data port.)But only one modem cable is available with the UPS box.

Connecting the Power Cord to the CPU wont allow the PC to communicate with the UPS or vice versa.

So there must be a serial port or USB or LAN cable bundle with it.Connect it to the UPS and the PC so they can communicate between each other and then install the software.

DONT install the Powerchute software from the CD that came with the UPS - there is a much better version now available - more stable and lower ram usage as well more info of power usage - get it here...

APC supply a connecting cable with the UPS - on the UPS side the connector is like a LAN connector and the PC side it has a USB connector.

I got the USB computer interface cable from the vendor.Now the Powerchute software working fine.Thanks a lot.
