PC Peripherals APC UPS does not draw power from an inverter supplied outlet.

Hi guys..

Ive recently purchased a APC UPS R series (500VA) to connect to my Bravia LCD TV. The problem being faced which lead me to this was that whenever there was a power outage and the inverter kicked in...the TV rebooted itself in that fraction of a second. Fearing that this might damage the TV; I got the UPS to ensure that there is continuous voltage supply and even the surge is taken care of.

I have connected the UPS to the Mains (which are on an inverter as well) and connected the TV to the UPS.

Now whenever there is a power outage - the TV does NOT reboot; however the UPS switches over to battery supply and then lasts me for 20 minutes or so ...

Please advice..
 
is there no other option but to change the inverter and make it sine wave compatible...Teh inverter cost me 15K and the UPS cost me 2.5K ...is there any other UPS with teh same functionality and would work with this inverter?

Nope :no: A proper UPS needs a sine wave power supply to function off an inverter.
 
You can give a try, let the inverter working like that as it used to be. Take out APC 500VA small battery. Take two thick wires as thick as APC 500va UPS battery wires and connect negative terminal of UPS to negative terminal of big battery and positive terminal of UPS to positive terminal of big battery.

Inverter will be charging the big battery, and UPS will be using the power of big battery. 500 va UPS alone will never charge big battery.

Both the inverter and UPS AC lead should be connected to mains.

Better buy a sine wave inverter with UPS function, from luminous, Genus, or Su-Kam.
 
Use other UPS other than APC and i think your problem will be solved... try UPS of microtek or any other company of any of your friend and check.
 
Well I've had Luminous and Microtek UPS(es) work without any problems with my Luminous Square Wave Inverter.
I've also had 2 APC UPS(es) as well - one just wouldn't work with the Inverter (like in your case) and the other one did but then it just died after an year.

My advice would be to try a desi made UPS like Microtek etc. because they seem to have looser tolerances, however you won't really get clean power so I would avoid putting expensive hardware on that line.
 
I have an APC Back-UPS RS 1100 for my desktop. I recent bought a APC HI800SQ inverter for my home, and since then everytime the inverter kicks in, the UPS refuses to accept the inverter's square wave supply. It keep beeping, and continuously switches between mains (supplied by inverter) and battery every 2 seconds!

So, the solution I found was to lower the sensitivity to input supply on my UPS (read the manual). it doesn't beep like crazy anymore, and seems to be working fine (atleast for now!).
