Hi all,

I have had a APC BACK-UPS 500 for my computer (which I now use for my TV
<
) ... All these days it was working fine. One day, the UPS would not turn on . turn off despite pressing the power button (and holding it for 5-10s) - there was no feedback from the power button (it didnt go down, or make a clicking sound..etc).

Here's where my stupidity comes into the picture - I thought i needed to press the button harder (as this trick worked a few times earlier too ) ... and took a pen and pressed the blunt end into the power button. Within 2 seconds, the power button went into the UPS's case as it broke.

The UPS is working fine now - no issues with that. All I need to do now is to get a new power button fixed. Anyone know of APC service centers in Bangalore (preferably south BLR) who can do this? Any idea on the cost ? I am not willing to spend more than 200 bucks for this .. the UPS will be hardly worth 1K if i decide to sell it off

I am quite sure that the minimum service charges by APC on Out of Warranty UPS will exceed INR 250. You can decide.

Also if you are quite ok with servicing yourself, you can do it. I have a Back UPS 650 with the same button prob, which I solved by myself. Its pretty easy if you can figure it out.

Also what do u mean by "Within 2 seconds, the power button went into the UPS's case as it broke". Did the button fall inside the casing or just jammed in.

I mean..the button just broke and fell into the casing,,, can hear it roll . rattle when i shake the UPS gently.

APC(Central data systems) here in Bangalore charged me only 200 bucks to repair button of my 550VA

Where exactly is their service center? I'd like to call / visit them if they really charge only 200 / 250 bucks to fix the button.

Also... It looks like the bad button seems to be a common issue .. never realized - you people also faced similar problems
