I would like to upgrade my Antec SP400w PSu to Corsair VX450/CM Ex 600w.I already have a APC 650Va UPS.

My Rig is:

E4500

Abit Ip35E

Galaxy 8600GT

1Gx2 DDR2 Ram

160GB HDD

3x120mm LED Fan, 1x80mm LED fan and 4"Dual CCFL

Also going to upgrade my 17' CRT to 19/20" LCD.

1)Is the Corsair VX450 has any issues with the APC UPS?

2)My Antec PSU has a 4pin CPU power connector.But the MOBO has 8pin con.Is there any problem in the connection?(i am confused with VX450 and CM extreme 600. i.e.CM 600 has only 4pin CPU power connector.So i asked this question.)
 
Then will i go for CM EX 600w PSU instead of Corsair VX450?

What about the CM600 w's 4 pin CPU power connector?

1. Is that an APC Smart UPS?? If not it'll have problems; Back UPS have reported problems with Corsair producing a buzzing sound when running on the battery;

Even my Back UPS BR 800 In for that matter; :( :ashamed:

But frankly its not a performance issue; No problem other than the buzzing sound during power failures;

But pl dont cancel the PSU purchase and make it a lowly CM600w; :|

2. No issues but its better to connect an 8-pin connector; The 4pin connector can supply a 12v to the EATX 12v but its better to have the 8pin connector for a better reliability during overclocking; :)
 
Then it'll have the issue but never mind;

Worry not;

Corsair has told that this doesn't not hamper the performance of the UPS or the PSU; :)

So go ahead; :)

They are wrong! My UPS gives an overload at 300W when connected to the smps on battery power.

But not on other kinds of load. That I have pulled over 400W without problems.

Plus the PSU makes this strange buzzing noise on battery power that is scaring me.

I did not have any problems with the CM 600 Ex power connected as it had no active PFC.
 
APC Backup makes buzzing noise with high end Antec with active PFC as well. Am using my BR-800 just to power the LCD and router. Using the Numeric 1KVA for the PC alone, its doing a very good job for past 1 yr (voltage fluctuation is really bad in my area during the night).

Am not sure what problem this ups issue would create, will post later.

same here.. using corsair HX620 on my APC BR800 ups.. buzzing noise when battery is activated.. freaked me out at first, but i'm used to it now.. my corsair psu is still purring along just fine..
 
"The power quality from that and many other consumer UPSs isn't anywhere near as good as the main line. The output on consumer grade UPSs are almost always modified square wave unless otherwise stated.

Smart-UPS is true RMS, however I understand APC's target market isn't consumers.

To measure the voltage on a modified squarewave inverters and UPSs, you'll need a True RMS meter. Not advocating for one brand, but an example is the Fluke 87 series. Multimeters are almost always "typical responding" or not true RMS. True RMS is a feature most meter manufacture would make sure to get printed on the front cover.

Tech support at OCZ was wrong. The buzzing is inherent to using modified squarewave (or modified sinewave as marketing folks like to call it).

Sinewave: 0 ramps to max, ramps to min, ramps down below, ramps back up.

Modified square wave: 0, jump to max, jump to zero, pause, throw in reverse jump to max, jump back to zero.

It's the sharp wave pattern that causes an acoustic noise. You're hearing the buzzing from power supply's filter choke, which prevents harmonics from getting into the powerline and since it contains parts that can vibrate slightly, you hear the noise. Even a light bulb will buzz slightly on modified squarewave.

Since I'm not aware of a long term study on affect of using modified squarewave with power supplies, but I wouldn't worry about it. You're only on modified square wave when the power is lost and in the US, that's usually less than an hour a year.

You need not worry about anything unless the PC malfunctions on battery."
