My confusion is on USB-IPod touch device after read on TeamBHP. Can this use as usb in car tap(headunit) with all features of IPod.? Most using one is Apple Ipodtouch 8gb 2nd generation.

please educate me. I want to buy it for my car stereo.

thanks in advance. Cheers!

I am not very sure of the USB thing.

AFAIK, Ipods are Itune based, so Players cant detect it as USB drive.

But you can use a line in/AuX option to use IPOD as source. In this case, your amp need to work ,no work for head unit

thanks thenvk.

I also bit confused when read this guy(S.Santosh) on tbhp. Post:715 (page-48) and Post:-49 (page-49) see here-USB-Ipod

am now fainted.:S.

pl help dudes...

What he means is he connects a cable from the car stereo to the headphone jack of the iPod. Rest functionality is based off iPod; which it gets by default. So basically ur better off with a cheaper iPod maybe shuffle or Nano if you do not care about video playback.

Sir What I have understood is that you got IPOD and Head unit. You want to use it as USB drive, so that head unit reads files from the IPOD. Songs are read and played by head unit.

Pictorially, following is what you are thinking, but USB replaced with IPOD, with its cable

This is not going to work in my openion.

The one I suggested is you will play thru IPOd and amplify the sound thru the amp of your car sterio. This will work in most cases

It works with my friends Sony AMP. HE can plug in his iPod Video on his USB and it plays songs of that.

Useless IMHO, as it is very hard to select songs, due to weird song naming of iPod.

As far as my exp goes the iPod Touch 2nd Gen does not get detected on any PC as a USB drive. So check that first before going for the iPod. Secondly if you only wanna stuff songs in a USB drive why not got for a Corsair GT pen drive maybe than wasting 13k on a iPod or if at all you want an MP3 player try Transcend or some other brand.

@thenvk :- What u understood is very correct. Yes, I want to use IPod by plugging in my Clarion car stereo head unit's USB slot. Thanks for info but your link do not open. Can u send me again.

@djmykey:- thanks buddy. At first sight, your point is well taken on why not pen drive then?. But, apple IPod can play lossless format (WMA,AAC format, I assume) on Clarion, which delivers high quality sound. Also, using IPod makes easy to select any folder/songs, which is not featured in my clarion head unit. In this stereo, if u want to select 17no. folder then u have to push folder change switch 17times!!

@nitant:- thanks. but SSantosh expecting IPod to overcome selecting folder & songs problems in head unit!

Ok.. first of all yes the iPod can achieve what you have mentioned. Not to turn you off or offend you but if I am going to play such a high quality audio file I would rather have the Clarion head unit do the playback or have the capability to play it. Why.. the el cheapo wire that connects your iPod to the Clarion head unit will ruin the whole experience. If you get a good wire without any noise or signal leak points; then do get it. But my advice is hook up a friend's iPod first and try it if you are gonna buy it only for this purpose.. but if you want a MP3 player then go on buy it already :bleh:

agreed djmykey. sure i vl try out first & then go for it if find feasible. :)

Other sideline comes in mind is 1. can we not copy/download WMA/AAC high quality format music file in PC? if yes, suggest link. 2.can we not transfer simple mp3 music file into aforesaid format in PC? I think, its other :hap2: way to hit the belly!

1. Yes
2. Yes

You can copy anything on your PC. Its just a file so why shouldnt it be possible ? If you wanna transfer file from iPod to PC then forget it. Needs too many steps to do it.

Thanks dude for clear my doubts.

By the way, Nero6 software is okey to change format of such songs in PC. Would appreciate to have free download link to have any latest software other than Nero.

I now realized that no need of such ipod & saves hole in my pocket. The idea is to fed up music into pen drive after conversing in high quality format on PC itself.

Atlast some realization.. now if you have the original music CD then only is it worth to covert the songs into FLAC or AAC high def formats. If you convert a 128 kbps song into a FLAC its simply of no use coz it wont have the actual quality and you will end up with a huge file with 128 bit quality. So bottom line - download !!!!!

u mean, such high quality music files cant create in pc by transferring from original cd or copying from pc itself.

AAC or FLAC music file can get by download only, Am I understood correctly?

kindly provide such music download link then.

thanks.

There's simply no use if you convert a lossy format like mp3 into FLAC since the quality's already lost and this will only make it worse quality wise. So FLAC/High-def makes sense only if you have the original source material aka. the CD itself! or you can download them from the internet. Just make sure you're downloading from the right sources..

I did say that if you have the original CD's then you can convert it for lossless formats. Dont convert 128 CBR MP3 tracks to lossless formats. No use at all. I was assuming that most of the people do not buy audio CD's; so the download suggestion.
