Apple devices are network hogs!

So I have an Asus RT-N13U B1 router which has at any point of time 4 devices connected to it through WiFi. A Dell Laptop (Win 7), Macbook Air, iPad 2 and a Note 2.

The minute there is any major network activity on the Macbook Air the internet on the other 3 devices slows down to a crawl. Is there any solution to this? I have also noticed this on some other WiFi networks so not sure if it is exclusive to my router.

Please help... I am finding it really hard to not cause some kind of physical damage to the Macbook Air or it's owner. My bandwidth can no longer be wasted on the Real Housewives of New Jersey.

Tried QoS ? : www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Quality_of_Service

There will be ways to enforce a bandwidth limit per IP; came across one such instance :- http://markmaunder.com/2011/01/26/h...-your-room-mate-or-bad-office-colleague-uses/

I guess I have to finally bite the dd-wrt bullet. That's why I bought this router wasn't it? No need to be scared!!

So I was looking at an easier solution of doing this but it seems the only way it can be done is with DD-WRT. Going away from this place for the next couple of weeks or so. Will do it when back as I am looking to upgrade the speed of my internet.

Thanks!

MacBook will always try to keep itself updated when internet is available. Turning off auto download updates might solve the issue.
