Apple gearing up for $99 iPhone?

Every June, from last two years, Apple is launching its iPhone. First it was the iPhone in June 2007 then came the iPhone 3G in June 2008 and now there are rumors that Apple might be coming up with an upgraded iPhone, most probable a 4G iPhone, you never know. Also the speed at which the previous iPhone have been selling in different countries is slowing down and Apple's competitors especially Nokia and Samsung are coming up with touch screen phones that are affordable and have a host of functions. Other threat to Apple being the new touch phone from Palm, the Palm Pre with its revolutionary WebOS. Of course you cant match Nokia and Samsung's touch screen prowess with that of the iPhone's but then these things must be worrying Apple a lot and they need to renew their portfolio so that they keep people hooked to their multi-touch device. Analysts are predicting that Apple might be launching a $99 iPhone with 2 year contract with the operator, functions like EDGE, Wi-Fi, 2G and 8GB memory. The other variant will be an upgraded iPhone 3G made available at the same price point as earlier, 3.5G support, enhanced camera, maybe more than 2 mega pixel and a video recording feature. Lets see if the rumors or these analyst predictions come true.
 
I guess there will be n-number of speculations till we see some concrete hints from Apple man. But something is cooking in Cupertino and it will be out soon!!
 
What is important is the street price. If they are subsidizing it, then the carriers will be expected to bear a part of it, which will in turn increase the retail price. And anyway, the actual price in India is going to be ridiculously high compared to the US prices
 
Damn you are right, only the guys in US will be happy to know about this man. We Indians, like the last time, will have to shell out lots of moolah for the new iPhone.
 
^^ yeah rightly said.....i was so damn excited when i heard that IPHONE is finally getting launched in India.....but when they announced the prices my heart was broken into pieces....ridiculously high prices..... :'(
 
It does mention "unsubsidized price of $299" so should be around 16-18k in India, but you never know :P
The iphone 3G (8GB) was priced at around $600 in US for the contract free unsubsidized version and was priced at around 30k in India, not much of a difference.
 
i dont see the point of buying it if the price factor is gonna remain the same.. i am however looking forward to the n97 :P
