Apple iPhone sells over 5 million units in the first three days

Apple Customers waiting in line to get the new iPhone.

Apple has just a few hours back announced in a press release that they have sold over 5 million iPhone 5's in only the opening weekend. The pre-order had begun on September of 14th, though the device had not release until the 21st.

There was another face which Apple released in this press release which was that now there are over 100 million iOS devices which are already running on iOS 6. These devices include the Apple iPhone, the iPod Touch and the Apple iPad. iOS 6 also marked Apple getting rid of Google Maps in favour of their own in house map application.

The smartphone went on sale in the US and few other countries on the 21st of September. A very large number of buyers had pre-ordered the phone via the Apple store. Though several people had stood in line to get the phone, as can be seen via the above image. Like many of the Apple devices that have launched in the recent years, the Demand has quite surpassed the Supply for the smartphone.

The iPhone 5 is launching in several more countries on September 28, and apple had announced that the phone will be out in more than 100 countries by the end of the year.
