It was bound to happen sooner or later, Apple is warning that some of its new iPods are infected with a Windows virus. Apple says that a "small number" of video iPods, produced after September 12th 2006, were infected with the RavMonE.exe virus. The company has received fewer than 25 reports of infected iPods.
Apple says the virus infected only the video iPod and not the Nano or any of the Apple computers. The iPods were infected by a Windows machine at a contract factory.
The RavMonE virus doesn't cause any serious damage or data loss, but it does act as a trojan horse that could allow other, more serious, viruses to infect the computer.
The offending computer has been found and dealt with and Apple says it doesn't expect any more infected iPods to be produced.

Small Number of Video iPods Shipped With Windows Virus
We recently discovered that a small number - less than 1% - of the Video iPods available for purchase after September 12, 2006, left our contract manufacturer carrying the Windows RavMonE.exe virus. This known virus affects only Windows computers, and up to date anti-virus software which is included with most Windows computers should detect and remove it.
So far we have seen less than 25 reports concerning this problem. The iPod nano, iPod shuffle and Mac OS X are not affected, and all Video iPods now shipping are virus free. As you might imagine, we are upset at Windows for not being more hardy against such viruses, and even more upset with ourselves for not catching it

Apple is placing some of the blame on the Windows operating system and said, "As you might imagine, we are upset at Windows for not being more hardy against such viruses, and even more upset with ourselves for not catching it."
