I am thinking about buying a wired apple keyboard for my pc running windows vista 32 bit.will it work right out of the box---meaning plug and play?Or do i have to install additional software to get it to work? Also can you hook it up to the PC via usb ports?(my pc doesn't have a ps/2 port only usb ports)

i know some function keys and the print screen won't work but what about the rest of the keys?
What are the cons to using an apple with pc ? Mostly use the pc to surf the net.

this is the keyboard i am lookin at:-
The Apple Store (India) - Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad
Also pls. suggest a good lookin optical mouse for under 1000.Should be light, convenient to use and good lookin.Won't be used for gaming.

Now this is just absurd, why do you want to you use Apple Keyboard with a PC running Vista, i don't see a reason unless you're running a reverse engineered version of OS X on dual boot.

Anyway, except some of the keys, it should work alright.

Also apple keyboard are way too costly than normal PC keyboards. Also apple keyboard normally don't have extra buttons (such as media, internal buttons).

So why do you want apple KBD ?

I have an apple mac mini and I am using normal PC keyboard/mouse with it. I have the same apple keyboard as you mentioned, but don't use it. So you get the picture?

^^ Thats a good suggestion.

Apple keyboards are nicer to type on because of the short stroke keys. They look cool too.

@OP, All the basic keys will work out of the box with Vista. And like thexfactor said, use the key remap thingie for the others. You can take a laptop to an Apple store nearby to test the keyboard before buying. Try searching for a similar keyboard from OEMs - you are likely to find something cheaper and built to work with Windows.

Well it should work out of the box, except few keys which you might have to remap.

But it's dangerous thing to do... as Steve Jobs might send his hitman to assassinate you for your blasphemous deeds of mixing PC and Mac parts together. Not only that, it's quite possible that even Stevey B (Steve Ballmer) may personally come and choke you on his armpit sweat for spoiling his OS with Apple's expensive toy.

Do it at your own risk as you might upset both the sides. :bleh:

It will work, I use one at my office with a iMac running Windows XP. but I strongly recommend againist it. Even I use it only because there are no other USB keyboards at office and iMac has only USB ports.

Its not a great keyboard and its definitely not worth the huge price it sells for.

I would be dead by now if that's how it is. I have an iMac running Tiger, Leopard and Win XP and have an Apple USB Keyboard with a HP Scroll Mouse attached to it.

Also i like the feel of laptop keys.

Well as long as it works out of the box i will go for it even if some keys like print keys won't work. Besides one can always remap the keys.

So thx everyone for your suggestions

Now coming to the second part of my question which everyone overlooked:P

suggest a good lookin optical mouse for under 1000.Should be light, convenient to use and good lookin.Won't be used for gaming. And like the keyboard this too should be wired.
