The iOS 6 brings 200 new features to the iPhone and iPad . It includes an updated version of Siri - Apple's voice assistant .

Siri has moved to the iPad also from the iPhone 4S . Siri also has new features such as getting sports scores , schedules , summary on players . It has also improved capability of searching restaurants , and ability to book table after finding restaurant . Siri also integrates Rotten tomatoes , bringing access to trailers , movie inquiries and show timings . Siri can also open apps now .

The iOS includes more personalization options , do-not disturb option , respond to phone calls with a set message, and set VIP status to individuals whose emails come through as an alert. Facetime now works over cellular network as well , which previously required Wi-Fi to work .

Apple will also consolidate a user's Apple ID and phone number, so calls and messages can be picked up via the iPhone or iPad.

Other new features include the ability to compile an offline reading list, a new photo upload feature, the ability to share photo streams, and an app called Passbook, which stores boarding passes, store cards, and movie tickets.

I might just be swinging towards Android after seeing what iOS 6 has to offer. I had planned on getting the next iPhone.
Nothing innovative but almost all things either copied from other competing OSes or third part stuff.
And yes Turn by Turn navigation won't work with iPhone 4 since it does not have siri. I am better off with TomTom on the iPhone.

everyone's talking of 200 new features, but i've yet to see a site which has mentioned a full list of all these features. what a joke. Someone link me to a site which has mentioned all these 200 features which i can read about.

The 200 new features even include the updates in their first party softwares and even the user interface.i dont think they will give you a list where they mention each minute feature they have improved or worked upon.
Being a mac os user,i am still finding the 100 odd new features lion brought to me and i get pleasantly surprised when i stumbleupon it.

Here is the best list i found regarding features -

Cheers

On the whole, everything was as expected. It was quite obvious that iOS6 will be more of Siri, to differentiate 4s from 4 due to a more involved siri. I liked the New MBP, looked stunning and nice hardware powering it.
Refresh to the mbp and mba was as expected.

then its called false marketing according to me. I guess, liars as they are usually, they must have probably clubbed together all old and new features from os 4.x onwards and added 100 or 150 to it to get that 200 figure.

200 new = 200 additional features apart from the old version. which is not the case it seems here.

^^^^^
How dare u say that abt APPLE

Don't u know APPLE invented the IPHONE.

Even a font change in the new OS is a REVOLUTION FOR MANKIND.

Lol.....:p

200 new features have been added and its pretty short sighted of you to think that there may not be 200 features in it.if previous records are anything to go by,then it seems clear that apple will keep their promise and people would post the available featrues when the os is released in the public.it would seem pretty stupid of apple to show every little feature and list in on their website even before the public release.i am however very sure that they will be uploading the video[like they do everytime] regarding 60% of the most important features on ios in their ios6 update video which is released after the public release.

hahahari - changing an icon if it emits more information is considered a feature.similarly ,now this is not ios specific, moving apps from one place to another was considered a feature when implemented in ios and android.
for eg. this is a new feature that has been added where the ui shows which apps have been downloaded recently by you.see the "New" strip.

@vantheman5211

From the list you mentioned, i think Turn by Turn navigation is not going to be available for iPad 2 since Siri is going to be on for iPad 3 / New iPad and TBT Navigation and Siri are integrated.

On another note, the event was lackluster and the so called new features were available through Jailbreak for long time. I know that not everyone jailbreaks their iDevices but still the features were not something which would wow you (IMO). And for some reason i believe apple is forcing people to upgrade by restricting some features (like siri) to older but perfectly fine and capable devices. And apple talks about android being fragmented.

look at this way -
take an iphone 4 for example.it had ios4 which was bundled with features and has/had and will have the best app ecosystem in the world.this was regularly updated with similar software iterations of the same base.
then ios5 came which added very vital and key essential features[some of may be available in other operating systems, but there were a lot which werent].this was updated to the iphone 4 and 90% of the features were given to a previous gen phone which is unheard of in other ecosystems.heck, even current gen phones are not supported in other ecostystems.
now ios 6 will add over 200 features and this update will be available for the iphone 4 as well and i am sure the compatible features will be atleast 85% of what apple are giving.
it is also a given that ios7 will be supported by apple which will be released in next year's wwdc and that is a big part of the attraction in ios.

if you summarize my above points, you can see that apple sold a product and supported in with 3 new operating systems[same day implemented as their current gen] and an overall hassle free and comfortable ownership.
you can look the added features in a negative way as well as positive way.you can decide to focus on the 10% features they are not giving you or the 90% which they are infact implementing in your phone.

i bought the iphone 4 for 33 k when it arrived here and frankly it's been the most reliable and best value phone i have bought to this date.i have always kept a droid and ios side by side and i find the ios ecosystem to be hassle free and i am very impressed with the continuous support by apple.

^^The problem here is there is false and deliberate lockout of many features for previous generation phones. What logic says Siri cannot work for iPhone 4 or iPad 2 ? It does work (spire) but apple does not want that to happen.
Integrating siri with TBT navigation and thus no navigation for iPad 2 / iPhone 4/ 3GS, another BS from apple, when iPad 2 and iPhone 4 are perfectly capable of having navigation. I use tomtom on iPhone 4.
Anyways apple maps will be useless for India as they might never come to us and 3D maps will only be a dream and like google navigation (which btw is not available in India officially...unless you hack it) apple maps will require constant internet connection which is again scarce in India thanks to ridiculous 3G plans from Failtel etc.

Moreover most features are US centric and useless to anyone outside US.

I guess the next iPhone might be just one more iteration with bigger screen (as per rumors) and a hefty price tag. I was all prepared to get the next iPhone after using the iPhone 4 (my wife has iPhone 4) but now i will just wait for it to be launched and see what it has to offer and then make an informed decision.

The lockout of Siri/TBT from iPhone 4 (with no technical reason) has really annoyed me. One of the main reasons I will not be upgrading to the next iPhone.
@vantheman5211 - The two main features of iOS6 are not coming to the iPhone 4 (which I bought less than 16 months ago). There is no reason for those features to not be included other than to force me to upgrade. And expecting newer features is not me being entitled, considering I am locked in for a 24 month contract to this phone.

There is a very high chance that next iPhone might be just a bigger Phone 4S with 4" screen or something and that is not what i am looking forward to. I might mostly buy an android or continue with my ZTE blade. Only time will tell.

there is no logical explanation from that.
will i love siri? ofcourse i do.infact whenever i travelled with my friend, his usage of siri was fairly high when driving and it looked a mouth watering upgrade since i am behind the wheels most of the time myself.
but lets be honest here, they are a business and if they give their ultimate selling point of their brand new product to an older generation product, then, they definitely will lose a huge chunk of sales. This was infact evident in them bringing siri to the new ipad and leaving the old ipad/ipad 2 users high and dry.sales figures clearly indicated that the ipad 2 was matching the new ipad for sales and it was clearly a lost opportunity on the new ipad itself[assuming it gives a better margin].this is just my take where i feel apple goofed up last time.

Also, the maps are not 'by' Apple. 'TomTom and other sources' is what Apple is claiming officially.

the maps are "by" apple and the tech is developed and implemented by them, however, it seems they have signed a deal to procure "map related information" and "basic layouts" from tom tom.Cant find much info on this on macrumours or other related sites, but this is something worth following.
tom tom has an excellent database and their tech is very impressive on its own as well.

@vantheman5211, I am not saying that iOS is bad. iOS is great. The integration b/w a mac, ipod, ipad and an iphone through the cloud is great. The ease of use etc is phenomenal.

But their marketing although effective is highly misleading. And they force you to upgrade for the latest feature which isnt cool at all.

There is definitely a business motive behind the lack of Siri on older devices. Having said that, they are still light years ahead of Android manufacturers that have a track record of not providing updates for a majority of their phones.
