Apple has finally unveiled its refreshed iPad lineup which includes new iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 with Retina display.
iPad Air
The new iPad has been named iPad Air instead of iPad 5. It is redesigned with smaller bezel, much thinner body ( just 7.5mm ) and weighs 28% less ( 469g ).
The screen is still 9.7 inch LCD with 2048 x 1536 resolution. The internals are upgraded with new Apple A7 processor and M7 Motion co-processor as found on the iPhone 5S.
It has 5MP rear iSight camera and HD front facing camera with FaceTime.
The iPad Air will be offered in 16GB, 32GB , 64GB and 128GB capacities with Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + Cellular connectivity options. The Wi-Fi version starts at $499 and WiFi+ Cellular version starts at $629 for 16GB.
The iPad 4 is phased out, but the older iPad 2 will still be sold.
iPad Mini 2
The second generation iPad Mini retains the 7.9 inch screen sizes but gets much higher Retina resolution ( 2048x1536 ) with 324 ppi dpi. It is also 7.5mm thick and weighs 23g more than first gen mini at 331g.
Finally the iPad Mini gets same processing power as the iPad Air with the new Apple A7 processor and M7 motion co-processor.
It also comes with same 5MP rear iSight camera and 1.2MP FaceTime camera.
The iPad Mini is priced $100 lesser than iPad Air for all variants. The 16GB , 32GB, 64GB and 128GB Wi-Fi versions are priced at $399, $499, $599 and $699 respectively. The 16GB , 32GB, 64GB and 128GB Wi-Fi + Cellular versions are priced at $529, $629 ,$729 and $ 829 respectively.
The first gen iPad Mini will continue to sell for $299, down from previous price of $329.
The new iPads will be launched in many countries on Nov 1, rest of the countries will get soon after.
