Do you want something that will sort and arrange these files correctly or just index the file location for quick search? If it is just indexing then Windows 8 is very quick in retrieving file locations once indexing has been turned on. It takes less than a second to retrieve files on my 4TB+ HDD.

@indy1811, I'm using win 7 64bit is there an inbuilt option in it if not I will consider a third party software. If a freeware is available to manage & sort then will consider it.

Try everything from this link http://www.voidtools.com

Though it won't index, it is much better than Windows search.. Once installed, it indexes in max 3 to 4 mins.. Searching works great.. You can use lot of operators n can search over network too...

+1 to above. i really like my media sorted. i sort my movies into different folders according to genres- action, thriller(some movies are action thrillers, so it becomes a bit tricky to determine which folder to put in),drama, comedy, horror.my music is sorted singer wise mostly and i have a masterfolder containing all my fav songs which i set it at random shuffle in my sansa. the movie sorting not only helps me, it also helps my friends who borrow my hard drive in determining which movies to watch/copy.
