Is there any nifty application to preview RAW files, something similar to Google Picassa. opening the files individually in Photoshop is a painful process :P

Canon Zoom Browser do the Job in quite a good manner...

Creates low res. images quickly for the view.. U can click on load original files for zooming it to higher extend and processing...

BTW, for me Adobe Bridge do the stuff any day.. quite handy to browse files and quickly process minor things in ACR (given that I never understood how to work in Lightroom:ashamed:)

(Canon's Digital Photo professional seems to be equivalent to bridge+ACR)

I'd suggest Adobe Bridge too. Not only will it let you browse RAW files, but also ALL adobe formats such as PSD, AI etc. as well as most other image and video formats; so you never need to open dozens of files to look for the one you want.

If you've decent graphic card and willing to spend a little then I'd recommend FastPictureViewer Professional : FastPictureViewer | A Fast 64 bit Raw Image Viewer for Windows 7, Vista & XP.

Things I like about this app:

64bit and HW accelerated

No non-sense RAW preview (unlike Picasa viewer which adjusts RAW preview with post-processing by enhancing brightness etc.)

Good raw compatibility coverage with many cameras

Simple minimalistic UI

It also installs system-level image decoders which enables viewing RAW files in Windows Photo Viewer

Tried the trial version.. Seems to be a good stuff for viewing photos... :)

___________

However, I still feel, the whole software package given by Canon (for free) is worth and better option than other stuff like Irfan view etc..

The zoom browser (by Canon) is excellent (and very fast) utility just for watching (or showing to others) your raw pics....

The Digital Photo Professional is awesome piece for no price if the features are noted.. :) Can quickly browse the photo and could be processed them simultaneously.... (the difference in viewing photo b/w ZB and DPP is that ZB generates quick low res files of raw whereas DPP loads original raw so that it can be edited at same time, but this may take bit more time)

For previewing images, Picassa is pretty nifty. All my editing is yet done on Photoshop, have to give lightroom a try though. But I like the creative freedom PS offers :P

I have not tried any of the Canon softwares though, will give them a try sometime though..

This is the worst part of the Picasa.. moreover, earlier version was kind of incompatible with my cam and they released the update very late..
plus, takes more time to load the photo...

for previewing+processing bridge+ACR is best stuff for me (again if lightroom is not brought in scene)
The other viewers (picasa infan) shows the original raw (digital negative) when viewing the photo... this becomes pretty useless once U had done tweaking in ACR (or LR) and now want to see the tweaked photo to decide if U further need to work on it in PS (advance working)

Also, in bridge U can do the previewing + rating... which later helps U to decide processing priority (it goes hectic to view all of them in picasa decide which one to process and then hunt of it when opening in PS)

Okies, talking about JPEG....

I am currently using picasa for viewing JPEG photos...

is there any better and faster option than this...

Is there any method the display thumbnails of RAW (.cr2) files is explorer..

Was using picasa with 32 bit win 7 which was doing that job, but now after I removed it (as shifted to x64) no thumbnails for RAW here..
some searching reported that Canon raw codec doesnt go with x64 win 7 :(
