Appropriate dress code at a mushaira?

Well, I've been invited as a guest to a mushaira sammelan tonight and have absolutely no idea on what to wear. As this is my first mushaira, I first thought a simple kurta pyjama would fit in but then this being Delhi, it'll probably be a social event rather than a cultural one. Googling around didn't help either.
Has anyone been to a mushaira? What's the expected dress code? I'd hate to look completely out of place.

The only solution I've come up with is to take multiple dresses (tuxedo, kurta, jeans and slacks) and change over at the venue as I deem fit.

Btw is this mushaira a public event or private one?

Ended up wearing an ethnic style kurta over a pair of dark stone jeans. As expected, most of the young guns were wearing a similar attire.

@setuniket: This was a semi-public event at CP (Delhi). A few of the paparazzi were present to cover the event.
