What has been a pretty sad year since jan 2007 for broadband customers where BSNL/MTNL touted as the worst ISP came up with 2 MBPS crippled but working plans Airtel has hit back hard finally. Though it will be limited to only few individuals.

Yesterday evening i received a phone call while i was driving. Irritated about the numbers of calls i received while driving i picked up the phone and this what followed...

Me: Hello

Him: Is this Mr Wadhwa

M: Who is that ?

H: This is Arun from Airtel

M: Arun I am driving right now... Call me after sometime...

Hang

Just after 5 Seconds same number...

M: Yes

H: Arun from Airtel Sir... I have a very nice offer for you... Will you just give give me 2 minutes...

M: Goddammit. Didnt you hear last time... I am driving :@

Hang

After 10 Minutes same number...

M: Hello...

H: Arun sir... Are you free now...

(Now i pull over the car so that i can really screw up his happiness)

M: What do you want...

H: Mr. Wadhwa we have a very nice offer ffor you...

M: Dude... Listen... I dont want a new connection... I dont want to change my bill plan... I don't want a addon connection... Goddammit i dont even use Airtel... I have a Hutch connection :@

H: Sir but our records indicate that the number 4316xxx is in your name...

M: Oh landline... Yes... That i use for my Internet...

H: Yes sir that only... We have seen your last few months record and we noticed that you are a heavy user of our broadband services... Infact you almost did about 42 GBs of data transfer last month...

(At this point of time i was like WTF... What am i getting into... After a pause of 2 secdons i asked...)

M: So...

H: Sir we are planning to launch a new tariff plan in the market and since you are one of our oldest customers we have randomly selected very few people and we are going ahead with testing phase of the same plan...

M: Carry on..

H: Sir we are going to introduce 2 MBps plans... Would you be interested in that...

M: But dont you already have a 2 MBps plan...

H: No sir... The plans i am talking about is 512 KBps, 1 MBps and 2 MBps Unlimited data transfer plans...

(Excitedly i asked)

M: And what are the charges...

H: Sir as of now charges are not yet finalized but about 1799 for 2 MBps plan and about 1299 for 1 MBps plan and about 999 for 512 KBps plan... But as of now we will be providing you a 2 MBps free of cost upgrade till the plan is introduced for your existing tariff of Rs 999 only... Do you want to enroll for the same...

I obviously said yes and th asked when will this be introduced in the public and he said in the 2nd Month of the next financial year. He said that they will steadily increase about every 3 days till 2 MBps in 14-20 days... he said "You should start noticing speed difference from 1st onwards..."

Today i am getting constant speed of about 300-360KBps since morning... I am waiting for the 15 day mark :ohyeah:...

All i have to say is...

GO AIRTEL GO :D Play along guys

Great News :yahoo:

2nd Month of the next financial year would be June, 2007 if you talked on 31st March, 2007 right?

I desperately need 1mbps

^airtel has different tarrifs in different states dood, dont think switch is even aware that its april 1st. i talked to him and this is as genuine as it goes

Well... This is what was happening last night... Maybe they shifted me to a different IP grid altogather... But now they have capped me to about 360 Kbps

I will be more then happy with 2 MBps... Forget the above shot :)

:@ :@ :@ I download ~60-70 gigs a month but nobody called me for a free 2Mbps UL plan....

Sounds more like an April Fool's joke...

Dude i am like one of their oldest customers :|

how old?

btw did you mean May/June 2007 or May/June 2008?

& I thought you had got Sify Broadband as Airtel was not there in the area of your new house ;)

This looks like an April fools joke.

Anyway, Airtel indeed seems to have improved the service a bit. Earlier I used to get only 25~27KBps on the 256k UL plan. Since the last 3 days I am getting the promised 32kbps correctly or more.

Does being a customer for 3 1/2 years count as being an old customer????

I don't think Switch needs to justify .. but I had a look at the screenshot name it says "bleh2tw" ... sounds like an April Fool's joke . but I have my doubts :P
