What does it mean when it is said 45nm on a processor?

I was looking at Core 2 Duo processor, and it said 45nm?

How can I figure out that this will fit in my motherboard.

Please help ASAP...:(

thank you

any thing else need to know before buying a CPU, i already know I have 775 LGA socket type.

nm doesnt matter. as long as it is the same socket , shouldnt be an issue. but check if your motherboard has a bios which supports it :)

45 nm , 65nm, What actually is it ? nm Nanometer is the unit to measure very small lenghts.. Just like used in CPu/GPU chips.. The lower the nm the lower the die size.. The lower the nm [processing tech] the lower will be the temps..

Newer Mb's does have support for 45nm , upcoming processor.. While some Mb's support 45nm via BIOS flash. .Do check the manufacturer site for updates.. If you have too old Mobo then forget about it.. cause it won't support 45nm processor .. You have to get a new one if you are willing to shell buck for the same :P

Its Asus P5R series mobo, probabbly P5RD2-VM to be exact.

If yes, then NO, it wont even support 65nm CORE architecture CPU.

Probabbly no X200 chipset will support Core 2 Duos, only ASRock can do things like this

Asus Mobos CPU support

I had Intel D101GGC mobo, same X200 chipset.

hmm, you have a branded machine ?

please mention which compaq presario model number it is

@ sidhu, since its a branded machine , its better that he get it from compaq support , since there might be small modifications

HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Updating the BIOS

please follow this guide to update your bios

keep your pc on UPS on make sure that power isnt interrupted during the flash

Are you ready to do a bios flash ????

bah the last bios update for that model is from 2006. 45 nm processors are from later. I guess it doesnt support it then.

some more bad news, as sidhu has said , it wont support any of the core /core 2 processors, even the 65nm ones.

if you want to upgrade , get a new board :)

compaq12 now buy Biostar P35 mobo and E7200 combo, 9.5k approx, 1k more than E8400, sell this mobo. I hope U have DDR2 RAM, UR current mobo supports DDR2 ??

Also above mobo will require dedicated GPU, get used 6200/7100GS etc @ 1k approx.

What is the best processor, that i can put on this motherboard?

U can upgrade to maxx Pentium D 960, but they run too hot and consume lots of power, its old architecture. Not worthy, discontinued line up. New gen CPU like E21XX series beats them in multitasking.

So, max i can put is Pentium D 960, but thats also 65-nm...

Can i put 90-nm?

LAST QUESTION:

my COD 4 doesnt work smooth...I know I need to replace both CPU and Graphics, but which will make a big difference, or which one should I buy graphics or CPU first.

(I have Pentium 4 HT 3.0GHz, ATi x1300 (512MB))

Was building a new PC so just wanted to know whether the Abit IP35-E Mobo with its original bios would at least detect the e7200 to allow me to flash the latest bios or do I have to get another 65nm processor to flash the bios?
