I'm helping my neighbour to buy a home PC. I recommended a Sempron64 2600 with a GeForce 6100/6150 (nForce 410/430) chipset mobo. Are these mobos available in India ? And, is any Sempron64 other than 2500/2600 available ?
Thanks.

Go for GIGABYTE GA-K8N51GMF-9 (GeForce6150 chipset) Rs 4400/-

I have seen other semprons here including 2800+, 3000+. But they arent worth the price. The best price/performance points are achieved with the 2500+ and 2600+.

Anyway it WONT fit the semprons as the mobo is socket 939 and the processor is 754 pins.

The gigabyte mobo is the only one available AFAIK. But stay away from them for sometime as there is a serious bug which is being rectified. Some mobo companies have recalled their products. But i dont expect such quality control to happen in India. So the mobos might create some problems

As of now the only option for socket 754 is a MSI RS-480 for Rs4700 (www.deltapage.com for prices as details) if you are looking for a good feature set like PCI-E and decent graphics capabilities.

the only issue with 6150 mobos were that of TV out on some of the mobos which did not work. Some mobo makers tried to increase their feature set by including TV out which did not work.

Other than that its a very good VFM solution.

Absolutely, this is an important point that I wanted to mention earlier but forgot to. AFAIK, at the moment there are no Geforce 6100/6150 Socket 754 boards available here in India (Biostar, Asrock and MSI offer Socket 754 Geforce 6100/6150 boards but dont think they're available here). Asus and Gigabyte offer Geforce 6100/6150 boards for the Socket 939 platform.

The only motherboard options with onboard graphics for the Socket 754 Sempron is the MSI RS480M as Raghu pointed out, and the Asus/Gigabyte boards based on the K8M800 chipset.

I followed the link and there was another link on that page... " nForce 4 Data Corruption"...

http://forums.nvidia.com/lofiversion/index.php?t8171.html

I went thru the pages in the link at the nVidia forums and I am now in a fix - I was thinking about buying a nForce 4 board after a week but after reading what is mentioned in the nvidia forum I am now not sure I should buy these boards. :O

Does anyone have any opinions on this ? Is there a thread in TE discussing this problem with the nforce 4 boards ?

^^after going thru that thread it looks like only maxtor drives r having that particular prob.....
edit - hitachi n WD too r facing the same probs :) .... seagate is the only drive with no probs :D

I know .. I know.... I have 2 Maxtor SATA drives :( :(

But I have never seen any posts here about this data corruption problem - is it a common problem here too ?

I've been running a NF4 board for 6 mths now and no such issue with my PATA drive. Saiyan has been using it for 2 mths now and no issues for him too with his SATA drive. Both of us have Seagate drives.

The problems seem to be with large and continuous transfers. Things that stress the controller seem to be affecting the mobo and causing issues. Probably something related to extreme loads on the controller. So its ok for any average usage. But then with ppl transferring 20gigs on anime daily i wouldnt be surprised to see a few wasted hours.

On a daily basis I copy a single file of 2.5gb between 3 HDDs. THAT is why this worries me. Maybe this will make my decision swing in favour of the
"ASRock 939Dual-SATA2" board priced at 3.5k which is ULi based and has both PCIe and AGP

Isn't the Gigabyte GA-K8N51GMF ( listed on the deltapage ) a 754 board ? I think it is.

My mistake, the GA-K8N51GMF is a Socket 754 board:

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-K8N51GMF.htm

The GA-K8N51GMF-9 is a Socket 939 board:

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-K8N51GMF-9.htm

Since deltapage have listed it under Socket 939 boards, i'm guessing they're referring to the second board :)

And, isn't the ASUS A8N-VM based on GeForce 6100 + nForce 410 ? The ASUS-VM CSM is GeForce 6150 + nForce 430 based.

Correct indeed, and both boards are Socket 939 again. The K8N-VM is a Socket 754 board.

Too many version numbers with similar names/numbers. This is soooo confusing. Try searching for the socket 754 version PoBoy. I dont think anyone here has actually seen one :( And let us know if you find it.
