Are Indian web hosts are offshore ?

Can someone correct the op. The sentences are wreaking havoc with my mind :-D

I thought of offshore hosting as websites with server farms outside the country. But now I'm not so sure :-/

Yeah perhaps, Offshore hosting is services hosted outside the country, which won't hv legal issues.. I mean, they can't be shut down according to legal issues in the country... and yeah, here they provide offshore hosting services too
 
Most good web hosting providers give both options - local and offshore hosting.

For local, pricing would be a bit on higher side.

Yes. You are right offshore means usually outside country. But, hosting outside US servers is called Offshore hosting. Countries like Netherlands, Germany etc provide offshore hosting. That means there servers are outside US.

In simple words, hosting outside US servers where law can be reached easily. Offshore hosting usually used for Warez, Torrents, P0rn etc other activities which are not allowed. You can't just host a warez site on hostgator. So you need offshore. These countries have weak laws & they don't suspend your accounts. On copyright violation, companies send DMCA notice to these hosting companies. These companies just ignore the notice :P If it was hosted in US servers, they will suspend the account & delete everything before you can even take back up.

you mean, hosting companies outside India providing servers in India ?

The most popular types of offshore hosting come from India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and China.
 
^yes, that's what I wanted know. Though there are very less hosting providers [or are there many ? I don't even know one] from India, but no one suggests India for offshore hosting. Because if they name India they say crappy service. That's how the global picture is. And also hosting, labor, server etc charges will be more.

So these Indian hosts ignore DMCA like other HK SGP providers ? Netherlands, Germany, Austria are missing from your list.
 
hmm.. perhaps, depends on hosts. Most hosts outside United States accept DCMA notices, but some just ignore them, ie. they don't have any problem with whatever is shared as long as it doesn't conflict with their policies. About India, don't really have much information. Google may help you more, after all its our best friend :)
 
Hostgator is one of the reliable server you could try....
But honestly,if you want true offshore hosting get server from malaysia as the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.(DMCA) doesn't apply to their laws
Indian servers have also been into trouble with the DMCA(read it somewhere)
