Hi

I wanted to know weather Indian railway parcel system allows people to send electronic or PC components in it?

If something is sent bay IR Freight system will it be charged by OCTROI?

here are the tariffs Ministry of Railways (Railway Board) ,these are pretty cheap.

Thanks

People can barely go safe in our railways! What makes you think Electronics will be safe? (Electronics need good handling)

better stick to a good courier service, atleast your assured it will reach ;), and will reach a lot safer :)!

I got a fridge long time back...they deliver, but you need to have very good packing. Your stuff would be tossed around like a sack of fishes :P

I wouldnt suggest it...the rates are low for a reason

I agree that good packing is needed and may be all types of PC components might not be safe, but some could be alright.Like GFX cards,PCIe cards,RAM etc well wrapped in bubble sheets.

Did you ever see how they handle the packages? Leave even that aside, After all the bubble wrapping that you do, whats the guarantee that your package isn't going to travel below another 50Kg parcel? These days, even the premium courier services are not reliable enough, what makes you think that shipping by railway may be a good choice? If you are fine with a less than 30% chance of survival, by all means go for it, but IMO, the safest way of transporting delicate PC components via railways is to book a ticket for yourself and travel with the stuff.

Like coolraghav said, bulky stuff is sent via railways and the recipient needs to go and collect it himself at the destination.
