PC Peripherals Are there any 9GB DVD discs ??

somone jus told me there r dvd availables...which have double size....single layer and cost ard 80 buks in lamington.......nyone has some idea....and wht abt dual layer disc...do we need to turn it..in order to write use it.......(means we can write on both sides)..????

What you're talking about would be a "double sided" / single layer DVD disc.

*DVD-5: single sided / single layer / 4.7 GB

*DVD-9: single sided / dual layer / 8.5 GB

*DVD-10: double sided / single layer on each side / 9.4 GB

The standard "dual-layer" DVD-9 discs have 2 recording layers on the same side theoretically almost doubling the space. You can record to both the layers from the same side of the disc.

Whereas a "double-sided" DVD-10 disc has a single recording layer on each side of the disc, i.e. you record to one side of the disc.. then take it out, turn it over and record on the layer on the other side.

P.s: There are also double-sided/double layer discs (DVD-14 and DVD-18 discs) offering sizes upto 13.3GB and 17.1GB.

No, there's no such thing like that. But apparently you do get 800/900 MB discs, though I have yet to come across one.

well i have sprint 800mb cds...but i wasnt able to write 1 successfully........u need to change nero settings ...and thks for the info eddy.......

btw ny one has some idea how much they cost..and are the dvd 14 and dvd 18 here???

DVD 9 itself is very rare.... last I heard they were some 300/- per DVD.... totally not worth it..... IMHO

^^My Battle For Middle Earth II installer is a 5.5GB ISO! A DVD9 would be really helpful here. If I want to back it up right now, I'll have to use winrar, and either compress it to fit onto a single DVD5 (which would take hours) or split the file into two parts with minimal compression and put it on two DVD5s. Both procedures are really inconvenient. For the first time, I really need a DVD9!

I think slowly all games are going to go the DL way. That's when the sales will really shoot up.

Last tim I checked, a Verbatim DVD-9 was 275 bucks. Bargaining would get it to 250 but that still is costly.

i checked for dual layer disc it was for 250 bux lookin for un branded 1 if i get for cheap dual layer im gonna now convert all my cd's to dvd's n dispose of CD's hey also this dvd's get scratches very easily. any way of making scratched dvd work? buffing method? wats buffing. are such devices available?

ive heard of microfabric cloth for the cleaning the dvd scratches,or either with disc saver.
no idea of its availability in india or not..

Whats the diff between dvd-14 and dvd-18 dude?(other than the capacity, as you've said both these are double sided/double layer ones)

YUP available here at Lamington Road Mumbai .... was given one FREE by shop when I bought a lot of DVD blanks Brand is HALLOA HL-412 should be priced around 100/-. Use it to clean LCD monitor screen.
