News Are Xiaomi MI 11 cameras the same level as Apple iPhone 12 pro

Looks like an amazing feat by xiaomi...it will be interesting to see if it can match pixel too..

Tldr yes they are almost at the same level

And this video is just pure performance comparison lets not be blind to the price difference and you might be able to buy a mi 11 without selling your kidney too

This comparison is with the very early mi 11 too and often manufacturers fix and improve the camera with software updates

If you actually look at the pictures, there's a massive difference in colour tones and dynamic range.

Some examples:
  • 1st Picture (1:34) - Look at that sky. It's massively washed out on the Mi 11.
  • 2nd Picture (1:47) - Same issues as the first. Also, Mi 11 changed the colour tone of the building glass blocks from teal to sky blue.
  • 3rd Picture (1:55) - Same issues again. Poor colour tones and dynamic range. Look at the tyres on the nearby white car. The iPhone does a better job in capturing the details.
Moving over to videos, there's simply no contest.

When panning on the Mi 11, there's a massive stutter (4:36). The video looks claustrophobic. In comparison, the iPhone has smooth frame rates even when panning.

I observed the same differences but i found the iphone photos to be much inferior in details and looks.. I was surprised when he said they are similar... Video wise I agree iphone did look much better.. But i hardly use video apart from recording unpacking of expensive online purchases

Xiaomi made its market by fooling people in the name of good specifications. In real, the specs that you get a low cost are not really worth it and people have slowly started realizing this aspect. So it's better to see the camera specifications really carefully if you wish to get a good camera section in your smartphone. And there is no comparison of the camera quality of Xiaomi and Apple because you know the reality well enough when you enlarge the images and the pixels show their magic.
Xiaomi made its market not by fooling people but by providing great phones. Mi3 went head to head with a Nexus 5 for 40% the price and beat it in many things. Poco F1 was and still is a beast. Lots of Redmi phones here and there were amazing value for money. Even if you let aside the 108mp gimmick, the cameras were still competitive at the price point. I don't know what you think people have slowly started to realise but it doesn't show in their sales numbers and popularity.

Only issues with Mi phones is the ads within the UI which are unforgivable. And yes, its a waste of time to compare iPhone cameras with the Mi. They are simply not at the same price point. You can't fault them.

I think Xiaomi would hardly ever be able to match iPhones in terms of the camera section because most Xiaomi smartphones fool people in the name of camera. They launched a smartphone with 108MP camera at just 20k in India and I was surprised when people trusted these smartphones. I mean 108MP is not a joke and still I do not blame people because it is not their fault that they do not know concepts such as pixel binning. Against it, I found the camera section of the mediatek-powered Oppo Reno 5 Pro much better. It took a bit of extra cost, but you would appreciate the kind of camera quality it contains.

Untrue. This is not a feel and vibes video. If you watch the video there is actually a comparison of pictures and video instead of just going by vibes and marketing. There is a clear comparison in camera quality and xiaomi is the clear winner once you factor in the cost.

Exactly. There phones are still the best thing that has happened to the Indian market. Otherwise we would still be stuck with shitty samsung j series phones and 3-4 times overpriced older iphone models. If nothing else, they have played the role of Jio in the mobile market, pushing competition to up their game
