My 1.5 year old Eee PC 1000HE netbook recently slowed down. After checking the S.M.A.R.T statistics I found a huge number of BAD sectors. Now I know that I cannot repair these many bad sectors and it's only a matter of time before it crashes. So I want to install a new 2.5'' hard drive (320gb).
Now the problem arises is how to back up my existing partition and install it on a new drive using image stored on USB devices(8gb pen drive or 320gb portable). Do I need to clean up my USB 320GB portable HDD(NTFS) before storing images on it?
Since Eee PC does not have a CD/DvD ROM drive I'm not able to use Norton Ghost 11.0. The 11.0 version is not even detecting the portable where I want to keep the image.
I've successfully recovered all the lost data and now every bad sector is vacant. Will there be a problem if the drive has some bad sectors in unoccupied space?
I know a lot of you guys have done this so please guide me on how to proceed and what all softwares to use.
I'm planning to use the older 160GB as portable for as long as it works. Is there anyway to block the existing BAD sectors?
Specs :
OS : Win XP Home
Primary Partition : 60GB
RAM : 1GB
Procc+Mobo : Intel Atom
Guys please Help!!
TIA.
