ASUS Extreme N7800 GTX TOP
The recent introduction of the GeForce 7800 GT cements NVIDIA's grip on the high-end graphics segment. ATI has conceded that its equivalent chip, the R520 has been delayed to the September/October period from its initial July launch, and that its other middle to lower range products, the R515 and R530 may end up being released around the same time; this is contrary to the usual ATI practice of launching the high-end part first with a bang, before gradually scaling down for the middle and low end.
As the latest in ASUS' line of factory overclocked performance edition (hence the TOP name, which means Top Overclocking Performance), the ASUS Extreme N7800 GTX TOP has quite a task to match the standards set by the previous TOP cards. ASUS claims to select only the best performing graphics processing unit (GPUs) capable of handling the stresses of overclocking for these cards. Together with the fastest memory chips and a customized cooling solution, the TOP edition is the fastest graphics card produced by ASUS for any particular GPU. Add that to the solid reputation ASUS has built up over the years with both enthusiasts and mainstream consumers alike and that says a lot of the TOP series. So does the ASUS Extreme N7800 GTX TOP truly lives up to its status? Read on as we reveal to you if this card is as good as its specifications suggest.
Conclusion:

Conclusion:
Now that enough time has passed, we have started to see customized GeForce 7800 GTX designs from the vendors. ASUS has followed suit, utilizing a cooler unit from Arctic Cooling for arguably one of the fastest graphics cards in the world now, the ASUS Extreme N7800 GTX TOP, with clock speeds of 486/1350MHz. The roughly 12% increase in core and memory speeds easily helped the ASUS to outperform its rivals in our comparison and even returned results that are linearly 12% faster then the reference cards in some of the tests. Possibly, only similarly overclocked cards from XFX and EVGA could challenge the ASUS Extreme at the moment, making it a much-coveted item for enthusiasts. However, the ASUS' sky-high core overclock of 520MHz is a feat that should lift it above the other enthusiast cards.
The choice of Arctic Cooling's well-known Silencer series of coolers certainly contributed to the overclocking success. While it does make the card larger than the default single slot, those who are interested in the speed will not begrudge the extra slot required. What it does well is to maintain temperatures within the normal range for a GeForce 7800 GTX, even with its overclocked frequencies. Together with the fastest (commercially viable) memory chips available and specially selected cores, ASUS has spared nothing to make the best graphics card. The bundle also shows much thought, with custom applications that would appeal to gamers while the DVD and content creation software should be useful to all.
So the final question is, how much are you willing to pay for this card? Although we do not yet know the official retail price, you can expect to pay a hefty premium for all the overclocking enhancements and all the in-house utilities designed to make gaming even more fun. Going by its merits, and they are many, this is one card that has lived up to its hype and top billing. Also, there is always a small minority that will pay for the bragging rights and from what we have seen, the rights for the ASUS Extreme N7800 GTX TOP looks to be both impressive and expensive.
