I have been looking for days for a laptop. Bought an XPS 1330 but as wretched luck would have it. The morons delayed the shipping date for a week. The contact who is coming from US would be unable to get it on time now. Order canceled!

Now I am again on a lookout and have shortlisted 3 options.

ASUS F6V from here for around 56K

PITA: Asus have been known for poor battery life. This I guess would have only 2:30 minutes on 6cell.

Config:

Intel Core 2 Duo P8400(2.26GHz)

13.3" Wide XGA

4GB Memory

320GB HDD 5400rpm

DVD Super Multi ATI

Mobility Radeon HD 3470

6cell battery

Apple Macbook from here for around 63K

PITA: 63K :O

Sony Vaio VGN-CR320E/T from here for around 51K

PITA: I wont get warranty in India.

Config:

14.1"

Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 Processor

2 GB RAM

250 GB Hard Drive

X3100

Crocodile design :P

My preferences

Portability

Style factor (all 3 score favorably)

Battery life

Not too important:

Gaming in not a priority

Would be connecting most likely to say a 24" LCD when working at home on flash, photoshop, dreamweaver

So please help me make up my mind or share your experiences to help out so that I can make the purchase within 2-3 days.

hey buddy,

considering the fact that a majority of your needs are based on designing aspects i would suggest that you get the macbook. Apples o/s works smooth even when you are working on 5-7 things simultaneously unlike windows.

And also y not get the apple from there aswel? its got international warranty so if you get it cheaper ther (which you wil) jus ask ur guy 2 bring it over! should be able to manage for 1300 dollars ~ 52k's!

Yeah I am getting international warranty on the asus.

And the macbook costs $1499 there, so after tax it should be 66000+. So I see no value in getting it from there (barring the free iPod from US site :P ). BTW I am interested in the black one.

Will check out which iPod they are offering and for how much can I offload it here.

EDIT: the ipod touch is NOT free. Its a MIR, which I would be able to get since my friend stays there. The problem is I would have to pay for it first :P

Macbook, definetly!

EDIT: yes, free ipod!! whee

and apple should honor warranty anyway

if possible get a macbook pro but for ur needs even macbook is fine, all u do is watch ****

Strike out the Asus for poor battery life. And macbook definitely between the rest, because you'll find Mac OS X worth more than the extra money you'll be shelling out ;)

Yeah thats why I wonder if it would look better on a LED display ;)

Anyway still weighing out my options. Somehow I cant get myself to pay 62K for a laptop esp when that dell was 52K.

IMHO nothing can beat the specs of the asus. Its the best bang for the buck. And on top of that ASUS provides a 2 year international warranty on all their laptops. So consider that if you aint gonna use OSX. Else you should get the macbook for the "Who's-who" Factor :P

Btw, were you willing to overlook the issues with the 1330? like the video going bad or the heating issues...?

Because, I am leaning towards the 1330 too, can't find any other worthy offering in the 13" affordable category.

Well I am considering that. And rest assured if I am gonna buy a Mac then I would switch completely to OSX :P

Well yeah I was gonna overlook the factor initially as I dont think its as serious now. But then I decided against it. I was buying it with the X3100 to save cost (and no gfx means no games so self control).

Whoa :O

I never saw Anish's thread...

then What have you been smoking Ren to even be thinking of the Vaio and Asus?

Grab the 44K wala macbook without even thinking twice...

Add more RAM yourself later

or get the 52K one if you cant live w/o a DVD writer on your lappy

abhi, you have been converted to the dark side. :bleh:

A white and glossy macbook! My palms sweat a lot and couple that with the dust, I'll end up wiping it clean every 15 minutes. Thats why the preference for black and matte body. And that costs 62K+.

I am all sold for the Mac, just that its a bit over my budget, hence the deliberation.

And writing DVDs on a laptop is a pain, so I dont care for a dvdrw.

Doesnt matter, the macbook's build will hold up tight against that

My XPS on the other hand went from a shiny silver to shady gray on the palmrests in 6 months flat

And Dont tell me you are ok with paying 20K extra for the fri%^n color :P

Get that white macbook, and quick

(just one note of caution, the macbook's screen is nowhere close to the air, or even the macbook pro or XPS1330)

^^ tas cause of the led screens in all the other notebooks.! ;)

yeah.. the macbook air seriously rocks! if you can stretch your budget get tat.. its frigin awesome.. everywher i take my air, i get the stares ..;)
