Hi guys,

I have decided on getting the Asus G1 Lappy from here...

Newegg.com - ASUS G1-AK008M Intel Core 2 Duo 15.4" Wide SXGA+ NVIDIA GeForce Go 7700 - Retail

Many thanks to Sourabh for suggesting this...

Specs:

Taking up a new job and planning to change few things...:)

Oh and if anyone feels this isnt the best buy please do let me know before Feb 15...:)

Stormy, my sister is coming frm US on March 1. She will carry it here.

Inspirons are good but I want 7600GO or better.

Thanks Ankit. All this for just 83k including bag..sounds cool na...

Exactly! 83k is an awesome price man. Plus you get tat mouse which is a lookalike (or is?) the MX518:P Only thing I don lik soo much is the big load of plastic above the screen (where the camera is..)

Yup, it is the MX 518 and if im not wrong you may get a backpack kinda bad for carrying the latop.

Yeah, the config is real good and comes with a 7700 which is a pretty good card and can play most new games smoothly.

newegg is usually not the best place to buy laptops...hunt around for better deals...

try searching through resellerratings.com

on a side note, i have my personal misgivings towards big laptops, so i wouldn't call this one a great choice, but hey, if you like it, so be it :)

Sorry, OT.

Anything in particular against big latops or is it just the "Small is beautiful" idealogy..

Coz i was in the market for a 17" one.

12" would have been ideal, but it would lack the power that I absolutely need.

17" buries the purpose....so Im gng for the middle path...15.4" :)

"Small is beautiful"

not alwayz, but certainly for a laptop

check this picture

o Im gng for the middle path...15.4"

The middle path is actually 14", but then for some funny reason, there are no powerful 14"ers available so I guess 15.4 it is...

nevertheless, I'd recommmend going down to a local laptop store to compare 14" and 15.4" in person..somehow that small sounding 1.4" increase adds a lot of flab in real life

I share same views as czar on 14.1" screens. They really do hit the best of both worlds. 13.3" screens are said to be so, but after seeing a Macbook - I found it a bit too small for everyday work. No doubt, 12.1" and 13.3" are great formfactors for true mobility but having it as the only option is a totally different aspect.

Although I would love to see some powerful 14" laptops with discrete GPU but laptop manufacturers are a little too apprehensive about it. Dell for instance doesn't go anything above onboard graphics on E1405 a.k.a Inspiron 640m and X1400/Go7300-7400 on the E1505 Inspiron 6400.

For gaming and workstation purposes, 15.4" and above are realy the best form factors, especially 15.4". It ensures that there isn't any compromise in the cooling mechanism.

I think you should go with the G1, it is really the best config out there at that price by a long margin. The bundle and accessories are equally great! I really like the looks of the G1 and G2 as they cannot be mistaken for just another laptop out there. At INR 83k which you would be getting that, we are talking about a steal deal.
