Laptops Asus N10J vs Asus Seashell 1500HA

I am saving to buy a netbook to use as a download rig. Will probably buy it in March.

Initially 1500HA was my choice thanks to its long battery life and Intel Atom N280. It can play 720p movies according to a lot people online.

Vijay Sales then came out with Asus N10J. Funniest thing is the Asus India site does not have it in list. I went to Vijay Sales to check it out Yesterday and found out that it is a stripped down version of what is available internationally.

The difference between the 2 versions are:
2GB RAM <-Int'l
1GB RAM <-Indian

320GB Hdd <-Int'l
160GB Hdd <-Indian

Vista Business Edition <- Int'l
XP Home <-Indian

6hrs 30 min <-Int'l
4hrs 30 min <- Indian (The salesman told me. Probably under load or actual battery life)
The goodies in the international version like XP Pro CD etc., is also not included.

Another thing that I noticed was. In the Youtube review they showed that songs, skype and other facilities can be used without booting the OS. I couldn't get into that mode as well (may be I pressed the wrong keys at start or it does not exist at all)
Now, finally a comparison between the 2 products that i thought of:
Asus 1500HA <- 10hrs + battery llife (probably will last for 8hrs) and Atom 280
Asus N10J <- 9300m + HDMI port + ability to play 1080p movies. (some guys tested F.E.A.R on it and COD 4 and they work but that was on the 2GB version)

Between the 2 which netbook do you think is the better netbook?

P.S.: I don't mind swapping 1GB RAM of N10J with a 2GB RAM. The only reason I am a little worried about N10J is why is Vijay Sales the only shop selling it and why isn't it mentioned on the Asus site? Also how much more different is the Indian Counterpart from it's International version. The 1500HA is exactly how they describe it.

Are you really going to buy it in March? In that case, you will probably have some new options to consider, as I suppose by that time new models would be released in market.

Yes in March :ashamed:

I have a To-Buy list. Since I am not downloading much these days I have put it at the bottom of the list. Should I go crazy in between and decide to download a huge file I'll go ahead and buy one from these 2. But, I am not sure which. That is why I started looking for a netbook so early.

I don't remember where I read this but I heard some new Atom Proccessor is coming out in Feb 2010. I don't know if this a speculation or is it true? I will have to wait and see.

I suggest you wait till March to buy your netbook. A lot of new processors will be launched by Intel during this period.
Also in CES 2010 (starts 7th January), a lot of new netbooks will be showcased. Many of these netbooks will have ION paired with either N270/N280 and some with the N330(Dual Core).
Asus will release the EEE PC 1201N which has ION paired with Atom N330. Check out a review of the 1201N here: ASUS Eee PC 1201N review -- Engadget

1201N is definitely worth waiting for but will it priced in the same range.

Nvidia do have great products but huge price tags. So I hope the ion based netbooks aren't very costly.

Just to let u guys know that i finally picked up the N10j from Nehru Place in delhi... Was a tough decision because the specs were really good for the price but then it was a very tough to find laptop.. finally after much of review reading online, took the plunge and brought it.. must say i'm totally not disappointed in any way!

The Specs are: N270 processor, inbuilt Intel 950M, discreet NVIDIA 9300M GS chip, 160gb HDD and 2GB DDR2 ram... cost was 19,500rs at Delhi.. And the packaging is excellent..comes with a very premium-ish pouch and with TWO batteries - one 6cell and one 3cell! that was pretty surprising to me.. also comes with a mini USB mouse in the package.. not bad, considering the price tag of 19.5k...

Right now busy with some travel so havent got time to get a detailed review up...
