Hi Friends
i just bought a brand new Asus P5k and Brand new E8400.I install the processor,connected my VGA card gigabyte 8800GT,i used 1GB of 667mhz transcend ram.When i press the power button LED glows,CPU fan,chassis fans spin.But no display nothing.No beeps from the cabinet speaker.The fans keep on spinning until i press the power button more than 4 seconds to shut it down.

1.I think i dont have to update the bios to support my processor bcos its says in the mobo box that it supports 45nm processors,but the month of import on the pack was december 2007.
2.i checked with 667mhz ram and 533 mhz ram.It wont POST.But when im running the pc without memory module at all the pc speaker beeps to a code matching to NO memory installed.
3.i checked with DVI-VGA adapter to my LCD.Not working still.
4.I check without installing graphics card card still no beeps but the fans keep on spinning.

i dont know what is wrong.help me pls :(

I Think there is a problem in the mobo.Try checking the gfx card with the other system..Chk that u installed the CPU properly (u mobo must support the cpu u mentioned)
Also chk that ur mobo getting the required power from the smps...

try reseating the processor ... my gigabyte had a similar problem till i reseated the processor ... but i still have to check if my mobo is shorting somewhere behind..

could be a cold boot issue too... try a cmos clear and restart :)

Hey man, there is a seperate 4 pin power connector, that needs to be plugged, pls double check if you have done that.

I had similar problem when I setup my rig 18 months bak...got really upset and worried..coz all my parts were from the US..but jus plugged in the 4 pin and voila!, on my mobo its located near the CPU socket..pls check your motherboard manual

which 4 pin connector? u mean the one that powers up the CPU ?i plugged it quite alright.

1.I tried with a different graphics card too.XFX 7600GT from my secondary PC.That PC is running fine.From which im online right now.

2.Ok guys i will try removing the CMOS battery for 10 and keep the jumper in 2,3 position.And reboot again.

3.If that fails i will try to reseat the processor and try again.

4.Im sure the graphics card is providing adequate supply bcos its CM600W.

ok friends thanks for your suggestions.ill try them out and post the results.

I took the Pentium D 2.8 Ghz from my secondary machine and installed it on the Asus P5k.It works.I can get into BIOS now.So i guess probably the BIOS didnt support my E8400 processor.I have never updated bios before.So guide me how to update my BIOS.Bcos i have read lot of posts that people got a dead board bcos of BIOS update gone wrong.
Im in a netcafe now.Ill come back in an hour or two for your guidelines.Help me with this pls.

Find ur BIOS update here:
http://www.techenclave.com/cpu-mobo-corner/bios-updates-for-intel-motherboards-107124.html

Else head to the d/l page @ Asus support page, link's here:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- :)

Have a FAT32 formatted USB drive; download the appropriate BIOS file; Copy to the USB drive; plug it n restart; load BIOS; Ther's an option for flashing it there; Make sure U don've a power surge or power failure during flashing the thing (rely on a UPS!!!);

Dont use, I repeat, Dont use the ASUS EZFlash utility for updating the BIOS; It may lead to a failure.

thanks everyone.Now im able to run my with E8400 with a BIOS update.but,

1.I cannot run my pc using a 533mhz DDR2 RAM.So im here to understand that my mobo supports only 667mhz and above?
2.when i reinstalled the E8400 processor and heatsink..i didnt wipe off the old thermal material bcos i dont have any thermal compound to use or replace.Instead i just placed the heatsink in the same orientation when i installed for the first time.What is the ideal processor temperature at idle and at load for E8400?so i could check mine,if its within control.
3.Everytime i boot my pc,there is a flash screen for about 2 seconds saying smth like Jmicron Raid controller,searching drivers,no drivers found.I dont use raid or anything.So how do i disable this flash screen.?

1)Your motherboard wont boot with the 533Mhz ram, because you processor has 1333mhz fsb, and the ram speed and the fsb are synchronus, which means Ram speed should be minimun 667mhz (2*667=1334)
2) You proccy should idle arnd low forties, depending on the ambient temperature. You can check it in the Bios, or better get Core temp or TAT
3) You can into ur Bios and disable it...must be under advanced chipset settings.

PS- Congrats on getting ur rig started...u mus be really pleased!:hap2:

1. Yes. Use a better RAM. Tat board cries for one above 800MHz. :P

2. Temps're 28-30'C under idle; 45'C under load;

3. Disable the Jmicron Raid controller from the BIOS;

thanks for helping me out friends.my pc is now alive and kicking :hap2:
