I'm planning to get a gaming laptop. Both have models that can be customized to near same configuration.
If looks was the primary criteria, which one would you get? I haven't actually ever had a chance to see the current gen alienware laptops in person.

I would get the alienware, just because it's an "alienware" . But thats just my opinion

Get a ROG.. There are a few here on TE itself and pretty much all owners that I've known have been very pleased with the VFM.

I once saw an Alienware laptop being used as a ship-ballast monitoring and control system by the chief engineer of a vessel which was berthed at our port when a heavy equipment was being loaded for delivery.

This was a pretty old model - mid 2009 I believe. Had a dual GT260M GPUs, 2 500 gigs hard drives, 17" display, 8 gigs RAM and some processor I do not recollect which one. but the laptop had a sturdy build, red backlit keys, display port, HDMI port and so forth.

That was the very first time I saw an Alienware and was wondering what was all the hoopla relating to it.

alienware from my end too. Asus, as far as laptops are concerned, is so apathetic to its own products that its sad.

Stick to a company which actually wants to sell and take care of its products :)

Asus G73b has a Core i7 + 6gb + 5870 and comes for about 65k or so from SMC International I think.

Can you beat that?

^Pl post a link to the laptop which mentions the specs and the pricing. With a 5870 GPU onboard, that's almost an impossible of a deal.

Thanks for the replies. Forgot to mention, I'm looking strictly for a 15" laptop. So its down to m15x vs Asus 15" variants.

Are you serious? The 15" w/ GTX260M+4GB DDR3+i5 should be close to 55,000 then. Calling them up now.

well IMHO if you want a complete VFM Package then get a ASUS ROG but if you want something to show off and have got money to burn then get a Alienware. :D

Exactly.

Excaliberpc has ASUS G73JHA1 for around 1600$ . Shipping to India is available as well.Which is a beast. It has a 1.6Ghz core i7 720QM, 5870Mobility Radeon,8GB DDR3 RAm 1066Mhz, 2 X 500GB HDD's , Blu-Ray Combo Drive.

And if u r expecting a similar config in Alienware then u would have to shell around 3000$(Without any discounts or coupon codes) or so. So its ur decision in the end. Price vs Performance Ratio go for ASUS. IF u r looking to showoff then go with Alienware. But remember not to underestimate Asus Looks wise as well. Here is one video which could everyone's opinion about ASUS . YouTube - ASUS G73JH VIDEO
