THERE is some noise that Asus has acquired very successful XFX. XFX is one of the key Nvidia partners, small but very noisy, which is famous for its success in super high end market.

The XFX company is owned by Pine, a far east graphic player.

We heard that Asus got its hands on it, as it wants to fight Foxconn as best as it can. Asus first merged with Gigabyte and now wants fancy brands such as XFX for even more power in the market.

We are still waiting for Asus and XFX to get back to us. µ

If this means that all XFX products are going to be priced like Asus, then this sucks !!!

But then from now on, XFX cards may simply come badged as Asus....wonder what Vandy will say to that  ??

Yeah, I think they would be priced similar to Asus and I agree with you that it sucks.

Asus pricing is ridiculous at least in India. They used to be one of the best Graphics cards manufacturers during the Riva TNT and TNT2 era. Now they have lost the market share in India because of the high prices and so so features on thier cards to make then worth a while buy. Hope that this not happen.

Don't the anti-trust laws apply here? Or is that only for US and EU based companies??

There is no such thing as anti-trust laws in india!!:bleh: :bleh:

A few yrs. ago GOI declared that it will start such an investigation against microsoft. Microsoft india protested and 2 hours later the govt. drops the idea!!! That's the closest any company has come to anti -trust action in india.:bleh: :bleh:

Foxconn must be really doing something right to "worry" a Giant like Asus.
first they bought gigabyte for keeping their monopoly status in the m/b market. now since foxconn is entering the graphics card market in a big way (previously they were oem for Leadtek and other "branded" Cards) Asus wants to consolidate their gfx card division by buying out "branded" names.
Competition is good for the economy!!!

one drawback i see in this is that if asus does manage to finish off competition and enjoy monopoly status then we the end-user should expect very high prices for Quality m/b and gfx cards in future (Nvidia based ones.), a prime example is the current C2D m/b prices ....A Complete mess really.

For the cheaper, "Entry-Level" priced products then the end-users should expect shoddy and bad products. which asus has become famous for in recent times. since asus would be geting it made from third party oem's in countries like vietnam / combodia/ cottage industries of china etc ...

Even now i feel asus has cornered a big chunk of the intel m/b chipsets and is forcing the other m/b manufacturer's to "toe their line" of high prices.

anyways members wishing to purchase 965 based m/b's will be well advised to wait for a few weeks more since most of the m/b's by then will be of REV C2 Stepping P965 chipset.

there will hardly be any anti-trust issues here. For one, all of the companies involved are largely contract manufacturers/OEMs and that part of the business seems to be unaffected as there are still many big players. Plus, they are not technology producers even, they just manufactur gfx cards based on designs and chips provided by someone else.

XFX VP denies a buyout

WE MANAGED to get an official statement from a senior vice president of XFX, Marnie Sutton and we learned that XFX hasn't been sold and doesn't want to be.

If this is not clear enough Marnie suggested that the company wasn't engaging in any such discussion about a sell out.

She suggested that during the past three years the company had robust business growth with a result of doubling its business in Europe, Asia Specific and the USA. The company continues that trend and enjoys its freedom, as it operates independently.

The Exec VP suggests that XFX will continue to play hard and it wants to stomp the competition and win together with its partnera. Live long and prosper as the Volcanoes say in Start Rek
