Asustek will unveil a new brand for its white-box notebooks: ASMobile.
ASMobile is already an established subsidiary of Asus, focusing on mobile communication devices for OEM applications. It isn't clear whether the new brand will replace or simply expand the existing ASMobile, but the plans for ASMobile are exciting.
ASMobile will feature the white-box versions of Asustek notebooks in 13.3", 14.1", 15.4", and 17" sizes, all of a thin & light design featuring "open architecture." It appears that the ASMobile machines will offer a new range of customizable options for barebones notebooks, targeting the DIY and desktop replacement crowds. However these won't be aimed at the bottom-of-the-barrel value segments, instead becoming a more "value-added" middle of the range product line.
The first ASMobile notebooks should ship in Q4 2006.
