Well, I finally 'm gonna buy a new system. Date for purchase is 22nd September(my half yearly ends then).

I know that DX11 cards are around the corner so I will go for a AMD platform with IGP. Here's the plan.

- Athlon II X4 quad core

- AM3 motherboard within 5.5k
4GB DDR3 RAM - upto 6k
or
- AM2+ mobo --- 4.5k
4GB DDR2 ... 3.5k

- 1TB Seagate 7200.12
- NZXT Alpha Cabinet

- CorsairVX550W
or
- CM Real Power Pro 550W
or
- Glacial Power GP-AL650AA (4.6k only!)

- Samsung 2233SW
or
- BenQ 21.5"
???

- Logitech MX518
or
- Razer Salmosa

- 22x DVD Writer ... which brand???

- HD5800 or HD5700 series GPU upto ---- 15k

good plan

1 . Get M4A78STD-V-EVO , around 6.5k .

2 .Glacial power will be good choice and better VFM also .

3 .Samsung S2233 has too much backlight bleed , go for Benq .

4 . MX518 is awesome mouse , didnt try salmosa so cant say about that .

5 . go with LG or any other SATA dvd writer . samsung ones have poor quality these days ( died 2 times and once dvd broke while running  )

btw pm me if u need 2x2gb ocz platinum 1600mhz CL7 :P

Hmm, OCZ deal looks good.

But I'm confused btwn Propous and Phenom.

Propous will be quad core and less power hungry and cooler(i bet) yet performing.

Phenom II.....

And yes, Sept 10 is launch date.

For a gaming computer, powerful dual core will beat a weak quad core. Athlon II series lack the L3 cache. Better get a Phenom II X2 550 or X3 720.

^ thats very old theory , almost all games use 4 cores now , infact some games use 8 cores also like prototype .

the Athlon II x4 extra cache can also be unlocked :P

Yes, I'm hoping for a Phenom II harvested Athlon II.

According to sources, some wil be Phenom II in disguise while some will be real Athlon II X4.

Nice strategy by AMD, people will buy more to get unlocked ones, and also out or curiosity too.

I'm going for a quad core, u can't pull me out of that.

Next question is:

DDR2 or DDR3, and accordingly MOTHERBOARD

I'm in favour of DDR3 1333 C7 or DDR3 1600C7, or DDR2 800 C4 or DDR2 1066 C4/5

@robo

Well I didn't know that extra cache can be unlocked. Then I'd say Buy Phenom II X2 550 BE and unlock the extra cores. :bleh:

Also tell me, beside far Cry 2 and prototype, which games use 4 cores effectively ? I'm not arguing with you. i really wanna know :) Hope you won't mind telling me because I have a dual core two.

Well GTA4, Flight Simulator is Processor hungry.

ya get Phenom X2 550 and unlock the cores tht would be much better than athlon X4
- Athlon II X4 quad core/phenom 550BE

- AM3 motherboard within 5.5k(Biostar A3+ cheapest Am3 board in India)
4GB DDR3 RAM - upto 6k
or
- AM2+ mobo --- 4.5k(biostar 790gxb A2+/785g)
4GB DDR2 ... 3.5k (OCZ reapers 800mhz 3.1k shipped)
- 1TB Seagate 7200.12/WD blue 4k approx
- NZXT Alpha Cabinet Its a bit small but good choice
- Glacial Power GP-AL650AA (4.6k only!)Reviews say its good but wires are not sleeved and is not modular!
- BenQ 21.5"/Samsung P2350 23"
- Logitech MX518(More buttons-I feel its necessary to switch frm high DPI to low DPI especially In CS.)
- 22x DVD Writer Sony/LG
- HD5800 or HD5700 series GPU upto ---- 15k

i cant make a list but almost all new games i played used 4 cores atleast , crysis , warhead , all unreal engine based games , strategy games like COH , WIC , mirror's edge , assassin's creed , bioshock , FSX , ET:QW , BIA , Rainbow Six Vegas , Wolfenstein , X-men origins and many more :P

check our crysis thread to see how big improvement quad core makes to fps :P

but yes , if u can find a unlockable 550 , its much better buy because of stock 3.1ghz clock and unlocked multiplier .

All the new games will be core hungry shabby. I'm with you robo. COd5, GTA4, crysis warhead are example of a few new games which are hungry for cores.

Gowt1ham - Nice layout. I like that.

But I can replace the board with the:-

- MSI 770 / SB710 - - 5k

- 4GB DDR3 - - 6k

Guys, the argument with quad cores is pointless, as I will go for a quad core no matter what. If I stretch for a Phenom II X4, it will set me back by about 10-12k, whereas the Athlon II X4 will be about 7k, yet cooler and less power hungry as I have already mentioned.

And it's supposedly the smallest quad core ever, just about 160sq.mm.

Now the thing is to wait for September 10th, as then the decision for HD5700 and HD5800 debate will begin!

^^ @DevinWolf, Its sabby BTW :) AMD 5 series is not released and u all r talking about it.

@RoBoGhOsT, 2233 SW don't have too much bleeding. You can tell it has "some" backlight bleeding.

And I recommend Samsung DVD RW. And lets see what AMD has in store for us on 10th Sept. All the best GAMERS

Bleed issue is subjective. Also depends on weather you game in the dark a lot. For the price, the 2233 SW is a sweet display.

@robo and devinwolf,
Actually I was talking about the quad-core optimization. And AFAIK, Crysis,warhead,COD4,COD5,GTA4,Assasin's creed none is fully optimized for quad cores. The utilization you may see in the task bar are done by OS, not the game engines.

Far Cry 2, Supreme Commander etc. are the few ones which are quad core optimized.

@saqib
thanks for correcting the name. :)

well if dx11 is a factor conisdering future proof , then quad core should be also considered , fully optimized or not is their issue , but atleast they utilize , and improvements come slowly , even ati drivers for crossfire take ages to optimize , still u suggest crossfire , then why not quad core :bleh:

yeah, exactly.. do you think I had enough money and still bought a dual core for just max games are not optimized for quad core ?? :P wrong. Looking into the budget OP has, I suggested Phenom II X2 550 or X3 720 than Athlon II X4 . If he has the dough, he is better off with X4 940 or 955 definitely.

And ATI already published drivers which optimized the CFX platform. :) but thats off topic :P
